Giganews users, are you able to download HBO content?

I just recently discovered to my horror that Giganews is removing HBO content. Is there a way around this or do I pretty much have to look for a new provider?

That's nothing new. Do a quick search of this forum for HBO and you will see posts from at least the past year of people mentioning this issue.

I know it's not new, just curious how other people are getting around it.

People either switch providers or buy some usenet blocks. The two providers that seem not to remove HBO content is "Readnews" and "Astraweb".

"Readnews" resellers such as Usenetnow.net and Blocknews.net don't remove content like HBO. The owner of both, swintec See Profile is available here on this forum for tech. support. They both are great services with excellent support.

Astraweb is another provider that doesn't seem to remove HBO content.

If you don't want to switch providers then buying a block account from Blocknews.net might be the way to go for you. You can use Blocknews.net to download HBO and use Giganews for everything else. Blocknews.net prices are very competitive.

Both Usenetnow.net and Astraweb.com are much less expensive then Giganews and they both don't remove HBO content. You could save a lot of money if you were to switch. Usenetnow.net is a very good service with great customer support.

Why not get a cheap block account to supplement the GN subscription like Stem Bolt said? Although it would make more fiscal sense to move to a provider that already has what you are looking for and not pay twice.

No reason to switch providers and I never let a little problem like 'post not on server' stop me. Read Stem Bolt's entire message.

Why even pay for Giganews? It is expensive and you can get just as good retention, completion rates, connections, and ect. else where for a 1/5 of the cost. Never had any issues getting HBO content on Astraweb.

I am on newshosting for less that $10 a month and have had no issues with HBO content as far back as I can remember. StemBolt's post pretty much says it all, but if you don't want to mess with having 2 accounts I recommend switching to a cheaper solid provider with less completion issues than Giganews - I myself like newshosting for the price and great support, but astraweb is good too.
