[POLL] Anti-Virus software - 2011 Member Choice

Anti-virus software is a software application that is used to identify, prevent, and remove computer viruses, worms and trojan horses. More recently the types of malware this class of software deals with has also grown to encompass adware and spyware.

This poll concentrates on applications that are intended to solely perform an anti-virus function. This means that poll choices do not include applications that are all-in-one security packages. As well, since this poll is about software, separate online anti-virus scan choices are not included. For any users who utilize any of these options as your main anti-virus solution, please specify.

Nice Poll,

Using Norton 360 right now. Didn't like Norton for years, got a free copy and it's not bad.

When I have to get a computer back up and running, that has been infected, my main choice is VipreRescueScan.

On the other Windows machines, Avast free, and Avira AntiVir.
My Linux machines, Clam AV.

At the moment I'm using the anti-virus that came with Outpost Security Suite 7.1 Free.

I have ClamWin 0.97 Portable on a thumb-drive and occasionally scan with that when I feel the the need for a second opinion.

On my Win7 machines, I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials

On the XP boxes, I'm using Norton AntiVirus (NAV2011) straight AV app, no suite, firewall or other crap.

Currently using Avast, with Clamwin as a secondary scanner. I also ticked AVG because I in fact plan to install it today (removing Avast first of course) and try it out.

I'm currently giving AVG Free 2011 a go. Used to love it a few years ago, but it had some issues (did not like ver 8). So far this new version works quite well, i'm impressed with it.

For my Windows machine I use MSE having switched from AVAST.

Hey they are the two most popular in the poll and coincidentally they both happen to be free! Probably no connection.

On my Mac I don't use an AV.

I was using AVG up until a week ago, but was thinking of dropping it for a while, due to it's hard hit on my system boot time. I'm currently trying Avast Free, and using MS Security Essentials as a secondary on demand scanner.

Thanks decx for the poll !

I voted NAV which is installed on this very old laptop I'm currently using while my own PC has died on me (was using NOD32 on that one).

Thanks for the great poll decx -- especially for including options for selecting whether using the free or paid version of a AV that has both.

In previous AV Polls over the years here, and at the BBR Security forum, I was always curious as to the quantity of the free and paid users. This poll confirms what I've thought.

Currently using avast! 6 IS on three systems.(accepted the avast! 5 IS 3-PCs/3-years promotional upgrade to offered to avast! Home users when avast! 5 IS was first released)
