Vonage and Wireless routers?

We have vonage as our phone service and I was wondering if it is possible to use the vonage adapter with a wireless router.

Reason I am asking is, I just purchased an xbox 360 and would like to connect to xbox live.

I've always used it behind a router. Plug and play.

Whether you can put the Vonage adapter (and your XBox, et al) behind your wireless router will depend on the bandwidth you have available from your ISP, and how good the QoS is in your wireless router.

You can always put the Vonage adapter in front of your wireless router (and attach everything else to the wireless router), but you may run into "double NAT" problems with the xBox with that configuration. The "double NAT" problems can usually be worked around with proper configuration in both routers and the xBox, but it can be a PITA doing it.

Without knowing anything about your current configuration, or how you plan to implement a new wireless router into your network, any advice is going to be somewhat speculative.

FWIW, I have never had a problem with just putting my Vonage adapters behind a primary router, but YMMV.

All you have to do is plug the Vonage adapter into one of the available ports on the router, and it should be good to go. I have connected my vonage adaptor to my Verizon FIOS router here near Dallas, and to At&t Uverse router at my Houston house and have never had any issues.

I have my VoIP adapter plugged into a wireless bridge that connects to my wireless router which is located on the first floor. Works like a charm.

Re: Vonage and Wireless routers?

I used a wired connection from the vonage device to the router and I use wifi to connect my xbox 360 to xbox live.

So far, so good...no dropped connection on my xbox when a call comes in on my vonage device.

Let's just hope it stays that way
