Re: Sprint I just got an Inspire phone through ATT, got the 2 gig data plan, which isn't much, but between the wifi, and pass through internet option ( kind of like tethering ) don't use much of the wireless other than calls. this country sucks when it comes to wireless.

It's like my 3G data card. Grandfathered in to the unlimited plan. They'll have to pry that account from my cold, dead hands. And if they do, I'll just turn it off. |

I refer to that as a dumb phone, wink wink, was thinking of doing that my self. When the $hit hits the fan with these unrealistic caps, maybe just maybe they will get the point. not holding breath

I wouldn't be so sure about the grandfathering. I just received an email from verizon about my account that says that they made a mistake with the original contract and it appears that they are trying to change the contract terms mid-stream. It will be interesting to see where this shim sham ploy will go!!!!!!!!!!! |

To which case, if they ungrandfather you, you have a right to terminate your contract with no fee. I haven't seen a company do that yet. My sister has been on a grandfathered plan with Sprint for a long time now without them terminating that plan.

I dunno. I would venture a guess that when my Thunderbolt craps out and I get, say, a Thunderbolt 2 that unlimited plan would transfer. Unless they do something like "get a hotspot, lose your unlimited plan" like AT&T does.
If I were to switch my 3G data card to a 4G card, then I get capped. The lady at the VZW store agreed with me that it'd be nuts to give up that plan I've got. |

I have unlimited data right now, but will that change if I have to extend my contract another 2 years if I want to get the Samsung Galaxy S II, or will they keep me grandfathered in?

You'd probably get a refurb Thunderbolt. But what I am saying is, if you want to upgrade to a phone like uh Thunderbolt 2, it's likely you'd have to change to new data plan. If you keep your Thunderbolt for 5 years, you'll keep that unlimited plan.
That's how Sprint is doing with their $10 increase on data plan. My Samsung Moment is $30/mo until I upgrade to a new phone then I'll get $40/mo unlimited plan. |

Now, if you change anything to do with your data plan, then that changes your contract.

Don't think you"ll have the right to terminate since data is considered an add on and not part of your plan AT&T users are currently grandfathered in if they have unlimited data. Any change to a contract in the past is always considered to be a breech and you can opt out at that time for no penalty. Read up on the contract you signed through Verizon. Any change to the data portion is a change to your contract. Which is why Verizon will grandfather users in. All new contracts signed will be hit with the new structure. This is fine because not many people will hang around on the same contract. Some people will jump providers or drop data use.

Helps if you read the contract you signed. Phone upgrades extend your contract, not replace it. The only way data gets changed from unlimited to the new plan is if you change your data plan or eliminate it and then add it back later.

Not always true. If you take the promo price for the phone- you lose your current contract and MUST sign a new one that is offered. if you pay full price for that phone then YES your current plan will be there. you can NOT transfer your current plan to a new phone that you get under promo. ALL carriers do not allow that and actually say "NEW contracts ONLY". |

Again; not true. Just because you change your DATA it is NOT required for the phone and is an Add-on service to the phone. It states that. You can change your data plan at anytime without changing your contract. All carriers and customers know that. The only thing is once you change to unlimited you can never get it back if its not offered. |

if you pay promo pricing for that phone NO you will NOT get to keep your current contract. You will get a new plan that is offered. If you pay FULL price for the phone; you'll get to keep your plan. |

if you upgrade your phone under the Promo price you get a NEW contract 99% of the time. You will NOT just extend your contract. Those prices are for NEW customers. |

Galaxy s2 Don't be in too much of a rush the Galaxy S II currently is a GSM only model phone and on evil ATT band none the less... ( dosen't mean they wont make a cdma version down the line).
Also im sure if Verizon wants to ( be dirty like ATT) they will change your TOS and wiggle in some BS if you upgrade, you can keep your unlimited talk and text, but you can NOT keep your unlimited DATA. |
