Re: Spectrum Quad Tuner DVR revealed

The odd thing is they can put GAME HD / GAME 2 HD and team HD right next to the game SD and team SD channels and iN DEMAND PPV HD is near iN DEMAND PPV SD.

But OTA HD and HBO HD, SHOW HD, MAX HD, Stars HD, and movie channel is all mixed up with other HD mixed and in the past OTA SD sub channels all mixed in upper 100's to lower 300's.

With some of old analog channels moved to digital a long long time ago in the 100's. Other Sd channels are also in the same range. At least the OTA SD has moved to upper 300's.

Comcast Chicago land is a big mess.

but that not as bad as comcast used to be in other areas.

Our channels are 191-240. What's really annoying is that the premiums are stuck between the expanded basic and local channels.

Does anybody know if this new guide could possibly be pushed to Motorola DVR's already in use?

This may make me get rid of Tivo, especially when it can record four streams. I don't often have programs that interlap but it does happen. Big question is the season pass functionality and frankly I'll be happy if it can record 2 streams while I watch a 3rd program... and of course price per month.

It will be available in the rest of Georgia soon. It will be slowly rolling out to other Moto markets...

No SA markets at this time due to the tru2way guide that is in trials and launching this year in SA markets.

Well if a whole state is about to have it, hopefully SOMEONE with a decent camera can get us better pictures.

Also, I'm surprised they are working on multiple guides (SA Tru2Way vs Spectrum vs A30). I thought the whole issue was consistency for support reasons... (hence porting A25 to SA platform).

When you refer to SA Tru2way, are you referring to that sexy Tru2way guide codenamed "Barcelona" that ran on a PC & Samsung TV a few years back at CES? Loved that guide....

Sharp looking guide.

So is the Xcalibur guide going to be pushed out to all current DVRs or are you going to need the new DVR to access it?? Hard to believe they would run separate guides in the same market for DVRs.

From what I've heard, the older DCT64xx/32xx and possibly DCH don't really have great graphics engines. They don't actually support widescreen, but can 'stretch' their graphics to be wide.

I am going to guess and say the new DCX boxes will get this very cool looking guide?

Given Comcast's apparent desire to hold on to legacy equipment, I don't see how it won't happen.

Let me ask a Question regarding this new box.. (as user of Motorola HD Box without DVR right now):

1. How many simultaneous HD recordings? If some are SD, How many? (Should I retire my multiple LG3410a's?)
2. How many HD hours can it record? How long can I keep them? (Until I delete them?)
3. Are the YUV outputs and composite outputs BOTH active simultaneously (As in the Motorola HD Box?)
4. If you leave the box on channel 187 at all times, and you schedule a recording of channel 223 (for example), what does the composite output display, Downconverted 187 or 223, during the recording?

Inquireing minds want to know (My Wife -- the Video Junky!) !

when will the pittsburgh area going to get this box/guide? I need to exchange my current dvr because it is missing recordings or not showing names.
I don't want to trade it in if this dvr will be out soon.

1. 3 + 1 live or 4 with live being recorded as well.
2. maybe 500GB or more HDD + likely E-sata but turned off like other comcast boxes.

But with out MRV 4 tuners is a lot hardware locked to 1 TV unless it can do U-verse like split screens with up to 4 on 1 tv at the same time.

The Direct New MRV box with 5 tuners will have E-sata with plans to make it add space right on Directv E-sata overrides to build in HDD and maybe being able to stack boxes for more tuners right now you can use more then 1 directv DRV in MRV.

Dish has new 3 tuner real HD MRV boxes that can stack to add more tuners to the pool.

But right now cable is stuck with 2 tuner MRV boxes.

So I think comcast needs to have this work with 4 tuners in MRV.

Build an MCE box, or use Moxi or TiVo if you need something more advanced than what Comcast can offer.

I think his concern is, if Comcast is coming out with this, why spend money on an MCE box, Moxi, or Tivo?

Sure I guess he could do that solution, but if this comes out in a few months, go to the hassle of selling his MCE box, Moxi or Tivo on ebay.
