Re: DSLR 30-Day Project - Elements of Design While all the photos posted (except for Bryon’s) are very nice they pretty much fit in the category of texture. They do not have a focal point. Bryon’s use of lines is very well done.
Lines in photos are like trails, fences, tree trunks leading the eye to beautiful fall foliage, or to the focal point. A line can be a water fall, the stem of a flower, the shape of a building. Here is a very simple and basic use of lines »/showpic/dimag···1057&1=1. The tree limb leads your eye to the focal point.
Guys don’t make this hard, lines are all around you, just put a frame around them. |

| Good comment Sue- I was thinking about this on my way to work this morning.
The natural tendency for these sorts of things is to make the topic (line, in this case) the subject of the photo. I consciously did that last night as I was not feeling very well and just wanted to make sure I got something.
The idea, eventually, is to ensure your composition has one or more elements of design. You very clearly spelled this out -- flickr | Of faith, power and glory |
