You need to watch a few episodes and you will get hooked. Really fun show.

Hey, I don't doubt that there are tons of people who love that show.
I've seen more than one episode, and I can comment that the production value, acting, props and effects are all in the A grade category.

But I'm more into Sci-Fi, not Fantasy. If FireFly was on, I'd be watching it.

Personally I find there very few shows that interest me nowadays. Heroes was alright till Season 3. V was ok in Season 1.
I still watch SouthPark, and I've seen Big Bang Theory recently; although I don't keep up with new episodes coming out.

Personal TV comes with the choice of

1 HD box ***OR***
2 non HD boxes

I just upgraded to broadband 100 and I asked about the HD box, the lady said I could buy one if I wanted. She said they are only giving out 2 non HD boxes... I'm in Edmonton if that matters. Was she wrong?

They are also out of modems but are going to have some in on Tuesday.

Maybe it's a different area.

I had an install go in yesterday, the tech brought the SMC and DCX3200.
The installer was unable to switch the SMC in-to the bridge mode, I guess he didn't know Shaw's number, so I called it in later on - btw it seemed that the speeds went up when I switched to bridged mod.

As well he didn't set up the DCX3200 to the highest possible resolution, I was a bit shocked that the HD box was set to 480p on my 1080P TV.
I went through the "Menu", but it was for the "PreVue" software, not the actual hardware menu.

After spending 10 min googling, I found the way, which is rather weird lol:
Press Power on the remote (the box will turn off, duh) Then press settings (menu), the box will boot up a hardware menu on tv screen, and on the front panel. And from there I was able to play with Native, 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i.

I settled on 1080i, it seemed like the best quality.
Native mode switches resolution dynamically for each channel, and seemed worse quality and longer surfing times then 1080i.

The HD box is included in the plan in my case.

TekWest, the rep is definitely wrong. It's a recent change so she was likely unaware. I swapped out my DCT700's for a DCX3200. As long as you are on the Shaw Plan personalizer (IE have Personal TV) then this is possible.

Thanks for the reply saberon!

Do I have to tell them I want to switch to HD (I thought I was implying that!)? Should I call back or could I just ask when I pickup my modem on Tuesday?

Can any Shaw reps confirm this? (There was a bunch out you on here the other day now know one! lol )

Sorry for the delay in response here guys, was a busy day for me today. saberon is absolutely correct. You have the choice between either 2 dct700's or 1 DCX3200.

If you're planning on visiting a retail location on Tuesday, just bring in your 2 700's boxes and exchange them for the DCX3200.

Stupid question, when I eventually trade in my SB5012 (or whatever it is, the blue Motorola modem) do I need the original packaging? I looked through my entire collection of boxes and couldn't find the Modem box for the life of me. Can I just take in the modem/power cable?

I have exchanged a few over the years and have never had to return any packaging, especially since a few didnt even come with the packaging.

Hi Sean, thanks for the reply.

We don't have any 700, all we have is an old GI box that my wife bought many years ago (7+). Can we still get one or do we have to swap the box for a HD box?

You ARE entitled to 1 free rental of 2x700 boxes which are not HD or 1 free rental of the 3200 which is HD capable BUT NOT a PVR. You do not have to exchange any equipment for it, but any equipment you do not own you have to return.

If you signed up for broadband 100 and personal TV then the HD box is included in the bundle and you can just use your old dct on another TV. No exchange is required if you own the equipment. Don't know where I got the idea you had two 700's from :P

Hey Shawsean, any comment on the other thread about Gateways lacking features? Just thought I would ask for input and response from an official Shaw employee!

Thanks sean and pkarlos!

Just wondering if the mix up might be that I signed up for the tv/extreme/phone bundle when it first came out. Do I have to ask to be on personal tv? (I think I am)

Thanks for the help. I thought she would help me we the new changes!

Just got the new setup installed...

All in all, it was good.. though I am annoyed that I asked 4 people, three agents and the onsite tech to setup the modem in Bridged mode, and it was not done. Ive been on hold with Shaw for almost an hour now to get it fixed. Im on the Broadband 100 service

The only way to ensure that your modem is setup for bridged mode is to pick up the modem at a Shaw office, and have the rep program it for bridge mode.

Even for me, the rep on the phone, while he has been super helpful, told me that it should be in bridge mode now, but I'm still only getting private IP's from it. It's one tiny frustrating bit from what has otherwise been a happy transition for me.

Yea, the CSR/TSR's are not exactly showing their brightest moments. However, the Shaw guys have apologized and said they are working on correcting these issues.

Seems like the reps you're getting are a bit off on their training, here's how the process of bridging went for me, exactly step-by-step:

Called shaw local number (604-629-4000), waited on hold for 25 minutes (I was using gmail, so no losses there), call was picked up by 'Scott', I told him to bridge me, he said a-ok. I've confirmed what I need to do (nothing), and what is going to happen. We finished the call, and said our good byes.
I ran ping google.com -t, and 5 minutes later the modem rebooted, breaking ping's connectivity.
Modem took about another 5 minutes to blink lights DS,US, WiFi light was on during that 5 minutes as well. Ping did not have any connectivity. Once the on-line light lit up, my router was assigned the same IP I had for 2 years, and ping began to receive responses.

I did not need to restart the modem or the router or the computer.
