Re: More Minutes, Higher Fee. No One Asked Me.

Popster27,
What email address did you use to send your downgrade request? How did you word it so that I may get a waiver on the rate change fee as well?

I received the same e-mail yesterday. Last night I sent Vonage an e-mail requesting a downgrade to the 300 minute plan (I have never gone over 200 minutes in a month). In less than 24 hrs I received an e-mail stating that my plan would change to 300 minutes at the start of my next billing cycle (which is less than a week away). They waived the $9.99 "downgrade" fee. For me it was a painless process -- all I had to do was ask.

I recently did the same.

I clicked on "Contact US" at vonage.com and then clicked on the "send us an email" link and asked how I could change to the U.S. and Canada 300 plan. A few minutes later I received an email reply from service@vonage.com offering to downgrade my plan and waive the $9.99 fee. I replied to authorized the change and received an email confirmation within an hour.

On that note, before I do... are you guys aware of anywhere else I can port my home number to set up a simple forwarding type thing for less than $20 a month? No biggie if that doesn't exist... cell phones it is.

There are plenty of other options out there. I'm currently with voip.ms (Canadian-based, but they have US servers), paying like a buck a month to just park my numbers and voip itself costs me half a cent or a cent and a quarter a minute (depending on the routing that I choose). There are other options (I think you have "all you can eat" sorta plans for $10 or so) out there, so you'd be better off asking in the voip tech chat forum. With our use, $25 lasts us about 4-5 months

You would have to get your own SIP phone (phone that plugs into your router) or an ATA (analog telephone adapter, you might know it as Vonage Phone Adapter), but an ATA can be had for $50ish and can be used with multiple providers.

I'm pretty sure the small hole isn't a reset button, but is actually a microphone hole. So best not to stick anything inside it. (credit: Rashdan@slatedroid)

I went with VOIPO for that purpose. The charge was only about $6.00 per month.

Are they a solid business? I see you have to pay 24 months in advance to get that price.

They are profitable and debt free according to their web site. That's more than Vonage can say.

AT&T is very profitable, but that did not stop them from just arbitrarily shutting down their VoIP service.
