Re: [MA] For those who grew up in MASSACHUSETTS
Interesting list. My wife and I moved to NH in 1977 so we are still in the "just passing through" phase. But I recognize most of your list.
Meeting our first rotary was traumatic. Had never seen one before.
I nearly fell off my chair first time I heard someone say way out west meaning Worcester. Out west to the rest of the country is west of the Mississippi.
Growing up in Chicago I romanticized rural life. What I've learned is the only difference between urban and rural areas is the number of crazy people per square mile. Coming from the Midwest New England seemed small so I assumed it was pretty homogeneous. The different personalities of the states is amazing. So much so that NH governor Meldrin Thompson was mobilizing the National Guard to invade Massachusetts.
