Re: web security appliance said by buggs1a:Yeah, sorry, I couldda meant pc firewall, but didn't. I need a stand alone hardware appliance, not software to install on a pc and use the pc as the router. You do realize that a standalone web appliance is just a solid state PC that has a OS loaded onto it chips and stored in it flash memory (its NVRAM) and it has RAM to boot up into, load the on-chip OS and then the on-chip filter software developed by the manufacturer and likely a Unix or Linux embedded derivative type system that runs from RAM which is many, many times faster than from NVRAM (just like a PC). You can likely build your own better mousetrap by hitting thrift stores, geeks.com or pawn shops for a very cheap older PC system then filter away using a software package of your choice. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |
