Re: ikTel Networks - Niagara ISP Very simple. Guys that are unhappy, just up and leave. Those that are paying for more than 7 mbps have nobody to blame but themselves. After reading here you should know it ain't gonna happen.
My speeds are still all over the place. I don't care, the service is cheap, my downloads on Usenet aren't affected (no idea why). XBL is still working too.
I know two guys that couldn't live with the speeds causing lags/ buffering with streaming. They did the right thing and switched back to cogeco.
I agree that It's unacceptable to pay for a service your not getting. But the answer is simple.
Sorry if It's a bit of a rant. |

1 edit | reply to FiagaraNalls No need to apologize, and I agree. If you don't like the speeds, instead of complaining for the last 2-3 months, drop down a package like I did, or switch to another provider. Why continue to pay for speeds you're not getting? The price is cheap. I'm paying $25 plus tax for a 7M profile. I don't think there's another provider that can match that. I know ikTel still has many problems, like any new ISP will. I think a large part of the problem is Cogeco, and what Alan has to go through when dealing with them. Not defending him, but Cogeco are notorious. |

| I decided to do the same thing and downgrade. I got the caveat that the 7 meg profile would be changed to 8 meg and new pricing is forthcoming... Paying $25 +tax for Internet each month is justifiable for now.
I was told in that Video streaming was not an issue apparently...
"There is absolutely no problem with video streaming. I watched live soccer Chelsea vs Man U from London England yesterday on my home modem at 14M. We have found out that Youtube videos and indeed some videos have specific requirement. Some videos just wont play well regardless of speed, for youtube the best thing is to select auto from the quality settings or select the lowest speed."
Selecting the "lowest speed" or quality is not something that I feel should be an option. I don't expect to watch 1080p videos from the instant I click on it, but 720p should easily stream with maybe 5 seconds of buffering (and it was just fine on Cogeco).
Welcome to Iktel. Where the excuses are made up and the packet routing doesn't matter. |

| Lol I can't even switch to cogeco. WIfe called today as I work 8-5 mon-fri, they gave her some run around so I called them at supper time and they say there is already an account at my house lol, It is my house no apartments so unless there is a magic cord somewhere with free internet I don't have cogeco.... I guess it shows up I am a customer cause I go through Iktel and there is a note on the account after talkin with supervisor that I need to cancel iktel first which don't make sense to me, what if I wanted 2 connections? They give my some 905-333 number to call and its been busy all night whoevers phone it is can't afford call waiting... So I try to call allans number on website no answer... Am I in internet purgatory? |

 | If Cogeco is like Rogers you need to add basement, second floor, something to the address so it becomes a new install. That's the only way they will allow two connections to the same address. |

As said here, » Re: [Niagara] Can't get Cogeco cause of TPIA, one, and only one, cable provider has this "rule" that was stated to the CRTC. Videotron.
Neither Rogers nor Cogeco made this statement to the CRTC. JF may recall this as well.
But, yeah. What you said is the way we have had to do this here in Videotron land for years.
What we have to do is call our address 123-B for the second install to make it look like a separate address. |

| So if you want a connection you gotta lie about your residence, you want no caps you have to lie and get a business account, this is all BS.... I am willing to pay for the ultimate 30 and deal with the caps for the speed I will get, either get raped with speeds, price or with caps I am used to it by now I guess.... Just don't understand why i can't get a higher cap with cogeco as allan are higher and he don't/can't even monitor his customers usage, just Bass Ackwards up here in Ontario... |
|
 | reply to AwolRJ @AWOL - Cogeco is confused about the TIPA account, you have to cancel the one from IKTEL first then they can setup the appointment to connect you. I had the same issue when I tried to connect. They wont let you hook it up yourself. Took the guy about 3 minutes to set it up and he tried to steal my modem lol..
Also I didnt mean to come back here but was referring another unahppy customer to this thread and saw your issue. |

| reply to FiagaraNalls On phone now with Cogeco ordering internet again. Iktel just unusable. My wife was doing a conference call for school last night and the call broke up anytime we browsed anything.
So we had to do "main floor" since Allan has a pin# on the main account, but other than that, no issues. Will cancel Iktel in a couple days.
Getting hooked up Sunday. |

1 edit | reply to GreenEnvy22 Grr, iktel seems to be totally down right now. Router is getting an IP, and I can ping as far as Allan's gateway, but no further. His website is down too, www.iktel.ca is unreachable. All his phone numbers are giving busy signal as well.
I'm up and running on my tethered galaxy nexus thankfully.
Lets hope this is just maintenance, and not him just calling it a day. |

obigd join:2011-10-24 Niagara Falls, ON | I woke up to no connnection as well. If this is maintenance, he picked the worst day of the week to do it. Luckily I have my phone to tether, but I am sure he has a lot of clients who don't have that option. |

 | reply to GreenEnvy22 AHHHHHHHHHHH!! I'm down too, so is Iktel's site, no phone numbers are working!! What's going on?!?! I have a website to launch this weekend!!! |

| Believe it was power outage as I just drove there and back and when I arrived the traffic lights were out by his intersection. I knocked and rang his bell but no answer. Tried calling for last 2 nights and only get voicemail and today it was like a fast busy signal so I took a drive down to see and was gonna pay another month, but nobody to be found.... On another note how is Voip working now? I wanna cancel bell but am scared to. Am I correct in thinking if I went to another voip company it would still be at the mercy of my iktel internet? So might as well go through Allan or wait? |
