Cannot connect/disconnect internet using computer

Earlier I was using a modem whenever I wanted to connect my PC to the internet I used to double click on my internet icon and select connect and my pc used to get connected to the internet and I used to also get a small flashing internet icon on my tray.

But now I have purchased a new modem and whenever I turn it ON it automatically gets connected to the internet and there is no option for me to disconnect it by moving my mouse pointer anywhere on my PC screen because the internet icon on network connections indicates that it is disconnected (even though internet is active), see the picture and if I double click on it I get the connect option and if I click on connect, i get some connecting error (of course even though I am connected)

if i go in my network places i cant see even a single icon its totally blank

I understand some people will tell me to enable the option “show icon in notification area when connected”, of course I have enabled it but that option is available only for my LAN icon and not internet icon so that flashing LAN icon of course appears on my tray but I want the flashing internet icon also, so that I can frequently disconnect my internet whenever I want and reconnect it, because disconnecting and reconnecting LAN takes a lot of time

Now the only thing is I want to know how do I connect/disconnect my internet using my computer and not using modem or its not possible

Thanks in advance
