[Wireless/Satellite] SIM card swap from Netcom to Ericsson35 hub

Can you simply switch sim cards in the units and continue to use your service provider??

My father jumped off the dialup and onto high speed band wagon a few months back (Or I guess we should say we though he did). Prior to doing so he had a neighbour stop in with his ericsson 35 turbo hub. They played around with it and he was quite satisfied so he signed a 2 year contract with rogers and got one. But what they sent was a NetCom Rocket Hub. (I affectionately call it the SLUG HUB) Originally when he had WINTERNET service. He rarely saw download speeds of more then 1mbps usually the speed tests he ran were in the .2-.3Mbps range. Now that the summer foliage is out he is getting speed tests that include a .0 in the results. His friend dropped in with the old ericsson35 unit and they did a bit of side by side drag racing with the two units and found the ericsson only sucked half as much as the SLUG HUB from Netcom.

He would of been better off sticking to dialup. He is 12km from the tower. I suggested he start raising such a stink with them that they would be better off letting him out of his contract. However due to there really being no alternative in his area at this time he seems content to stick it out. Any research I have done seems to indicate that an external antenna will not help the speed. People report it does improve the signal but not the speed. The rogers help desk suggested he get one. He asked what kind they suggest and there was dead silence on the other end.

Anyways he is thinking if he could get the Ericsson35 unit he would be better off. I see some adds for used ones in his area however the one add I saw was for a bell unit. apparently they have SIM cards in them just like the SLUG HUB he all ready has. So I was wondering if anyone could tell me wether you can simply swap SIM cards and go to it?

THanks

P.S. My Overpriced high latency satellite service that provides 1/4 of what I pay for with Xplornet is better then what he has.

Yes I posted a couple other places and was told that so long as a person sticks with other equipment that Rogers uses I can change sim cards and it will work.

thanks
