| ah... i appreciate your reply ... i have 18mbit att ..and really dont like att. I haven't had a home phone in at least a decade... no real need for them ya know.
Its hard to believe there are no takers ..id be happy to buy 4 bonded adsl2 lines ... just seems the ISP's would offer something like that to those who would pay for it. Odd indeed. |

1 edit | reply to StLCardsFan It's really a shame that no one in the United States seems to offer bonded ADSL2+ for residential customers.
It appears that COVAD/Megapath has given up on the residential market and only seems to be pushing EoC to businesses.
As for Earthlink, they don't seem to be willing to offer anything more than 8/1 via ADSL2+. They should be offering 15mbit as their top tier for the users who can get it. |

ATT doesnt offer bonded dsl to anyone here lol. The issue isnt bandwidth btw with tier1 providers ...as its important to note THEY make the bandwidth...not wholesalers working on their networks.
Bandwidth cost is irrelevant for ATT/Verizon...and both are trying to make the market and hold it hostage. It would be no different than the NYSE dictating prices on every stock because it all had to come through them.
and being us ...the US taxpayer paid for all the trans-continental fiber ... and ALL of the copper telephone lines..and most of todays easements for the noc's ...easements for the fiber placed on right-of-ways ... the expense they cry about kinda goes out the window.
I've said it a million times on this site ... the tier one providers are raking in cash ...how else could they afford to spend millions and millions and millions fighting municipal fiber in small towns they fail to upgrade with realistic services? Why do they even bother fighting?
The truth be told ...they are fighting the inevitable ... much like the record companies were doing for at least a decade...and they will lose just like the record companies did.
I look forward to it. I predict in the next decade ..the net will be nearly de-centralized and long-haul fiber will be the only thing left for telcos to fight over ..that is ..if the taxpayers let them. |

| reply to Doctor Olds I just switched to Sonic, my DSL speed increased from 5.1 mps with Earthlink to 16.1 mps, plus I get regular POTS phone, unlimited local and long distance for less that $50 per month. They also have bonded for $69 which goes goes up to 40 mps. Also NO CAPS. |
|
 | im jealous! i think id spend the extra 19 bucks for 40mbit ...how is the upload? |
|
 | My upload is a bit less than 1 mbs but I think they can increase that by reducing the download speed a bit. |

I have Earthlink Phone & DSL 8/1 via ADSL2+ and have a good, clean line which could probably support the 15mbit tier. I would jump on it in a heartbeat if it were offered. |
