1 edit | Earthlink Speed/Connection Issues Hello, I recently purchased Earthlink dsl (3.0 mbps package) and I am experiencing some problems with it.
After trying several different tests the average speed that i'm getting is only 1.0 mbps down and 0.50 up. The connection also seems to randomly disconnect every 20 minutes or so depending on what im doing. What will happen is the internet light on my modem will go out and the dsl light will start to flash, and in order to get it to work again I will need too restart my modem.
This is a new dsl install I only hooked it up 2 days ago and have been experiencing these problems from the start. I have Direct Tv in my home with 2 tivo's and an alarm system. As far as the direct tv goes I did not have enough filters for every room so I simply unplugged all the lines from the phone jack's(including the tivo's) until I can identify the problem with the connection and get some more filters. The alarm system was disabled from the phone line due to having problems with it a while back, but i believe is still wired to the phone line(Not sure if that would cause a problem).
The phone jack i am currently using for the dsl hookup is in an upstairs bedroom. The weird part about this all is that I am experiencing average pings around 45ms all the time while connected, even with the slow speeds.
Whether it is something in the house causing the dsl performance too be this bad, I am not sure. In the meantime I have called earthlink and spoke on the phone too level 3 support. They are suppose to call me back within 24 hrs and possibly send a tech out. If anyone has any recommendations as to what it may be or any advice it would be greatly appreciated thanks. |
