Re: Need To Upgrade To New Forum Only issue for me is the way they show the forums which is very poorly done and I still hate it as much since they first changed it. I love this forum other wise but I really wish they would change it back. -- Team Discovery-Join the fight |

On the other hand, I've also noticed a drop in activity on a lot of the forums I routinely read and post in. It seems a bit more pronounced than the typical summer doldrums.
I can't really say what needs to be done, but I hope (and suspect) that the admins routinely reassess both the form (display) and functionality available in these forums. -- Regards, Joseph V. Morris |

 | That drop in activity has been ongoing for some years now, but I'd say it has nothing to do with the software itself (which I think is better than any other that's out there, though--sure--there's room for improvement in that area [and improvements in the s/w are also an ongoing thing]). |

It's 'the ennui of TV'-- there's never anything good on.
And while forum activity seems to have been generally declining for a while now, it seems it took a pretty major hit after the hack/password theft incident of a few months ago.
But as for the forum software itself, the functionality of that software, the usability of the site, and the incredibly small amount of time when the site is down and inaccessible-- nothing but straight 'A's there, as far as I'm concerned. |

Yeah, well, I've been here since a bit later than Adam and Eve got evicted from the Garden of Eden and I think you've been here since the Flood. You and I (and lots of others) know how to use the forum software, but it's become more prevalent that many users (especially newer ones) are clueless.
To some extent, this is probably due to the fact that some of the newer users don't bother to figure out how to do what they want to do; they're accustomed to more simple-minded (dare I say simplistic, or dumbed down?) interfaces? If I had a solution to that problem, I'd be more than willing to offer it.
Still, I can't take exception to what you say above. If someone has a better mousetrap, well . . . . -- Regards, Joseph V. Morris |

As for overall, the search sucks the balls of an enormous unicorn, but everything else is simple, clean, and easy on the eyes. |

jvmorrisI Am The Man Who Was Not There.Premium,MVM join:2001-04-03 Reston, VA | Agreed. The search functionality could be vastly improved, especially given the number of threads/posts on BBR/DSLR. -- Regards, Joseph V. Morris |
