I disagree with what the government is doing in terms of suppressing data, however it is important to realize that no law is permanent. Every time an issue comes up concerning a given law, that law is subject to judicial review and can be thrown out or go otherwise un-enforced at any time without consulting its authors. That's why our founding fathers created the separation of the three branches-- so that one could evaluate the other at a later time without fear of retribution or entanglement. It would be pretty hard to carry on a conspiracy in a government with such provisions in place.
In Coral Gables, where I live, there is a law on the books which says that 3 unrelated women can't live in the same house or it's considered to be a whore house, and the women who live in it whores. Needless to say, though this law is still on the books, it is never enforced. Still, though, this prevented sororities from building sorority houses at The University of Miami when the college was built and there still aren't any cuz now there's no room! Sucks--so many fine women, but no sorority houses to go get denied a date at! =)
