static routes keep going inactive

Would anyone know how to stop static routes from going 'inactive'? Why would the westell want to put routes in an inactive mode?
Ive been using the option of 'or (dest ip address)', and it gives it the public lan interface. public lan interface is not an option in the interface lists. once it goes inactive, the interface goes blank.

You probably lost your DSL link. Check the modem logs to see if they give more information.

Losing the DSL link is a chronic problem with centurylink at my location. I dont understand why the westell router would be designed to leave the routes inactive once the DSL link comes back up, requiring me to delete and re-add the routes everytime. Is there a workaround short of replacing the router with another brand?

Furthermore, I dont understand why they are assuming the LAN doesnt need the routes just because the WAN is down.

You would probably need Westell designers to answer that.

trying to track down westel engineers is probably an exercise in futility, Im thinking about upgrading to a cisco 851 or 871.

Yes, I expect that is correct. These modems are intended as low cost consumer products. You probably do need something more fully featured.
