chunk73Premium join:2002-02-22 Fairfield, CT 1 edit | Parents switched from AT&T Phone/DSL to OOL/OV My parents just switched today to OOL/OV from their copper landline and DSL from AT&T. The install of OOL and OV went great and their number has ported over successfully with both inbound and outbound calls working.
I know with cell phones when you port a # the disconnect of the previous provider happens automatically. Does the same hold true for land lines with DSL, will my parents phone and DSL automatically be terminated without having to call AT&T?
Thanks |

 | reply to chunk73 Believes you have to ring AT & T retention to cancel the account. Failure to do this will result in their continuing to bill you. |

I assume the phone has been cut off, but i guess that doesnt mean the DSL is canceled. I guess AT&T could have dropped dial tone with DSL still being active on a dry pair. I guess it is worth a call to confirm. |

| believe me if the dial tone is gone at the telco's NID, then the DSL is shut off as well. dry loop DSL doesn't get a regular telephone number (conventional area code and such). they would have had to completely install a new circuit with a new number. -- "I am quite sure now that often, very often, in matters concerning religion and politics, a man's reasoning powers are not above the monkey's." - Mark Twain |
