CenturyLink $14.95 Ads

I guess this should go in rants, but I'm really tired of seeing the Qwest/CenturyLink $14.95/5 years ad every time I open a new web page. Especially since I'm paying Qwest/CenturyLink about $50/month for 1.5 (and it's usually about half that). I suspended my DirecTV account for 2 months to see if I could just use Netflix, Roku, Hulu, etc. and switch to cable - I'd get 4 times the speed for less money. It's been 2 weeks and I'm doing just fine. - sheureka

I'm replying to my own thread here - but anyway. I contacted TalktoQwest last week, and got a response that someone would be contacting me but no one has. I get a very strong feeling that they want us all to just drop our service here. We have old lines and it may be more trouble than it's worth, particularly now that hardly anyone here has a landline.

I think I'll cancel next week and go to CableOne. They speed is much, much faster at the same price. I just will have to permanently turn off my DirecTV but I don't really think that's a problem. With Netflix, Roku, Hulu, Vudu, etc., I'm probably actually watching tv more than I did before I had DirecTV suspended. And with the faster speed from CableOne I'll be able to watch sports on the internet. I have a tablet with HDMI out that hooks up to my big living room TV so I really don't feel like I'll be missing anything.

I'll post back after I've made the change.

Unfortunately, I clicked on one of those ads on a day I was fed up with my poor cable service for a 30 day trial. A day later, I found an ad in my mail for a 7M down but everything else the same. When I contacted Qwest/CenturyLink, I pretty much got the "talk to the hand cuz the ears aint listening" from Qwest so will probably be canceling within my 30 days and moving on. Not too happy with how they've handled my own experience.

You should learn the magic of the deal. Especially when (artificial) competition is involved. I receive offers in the mail from Comcast XFINITY for my area, and still have no cable service. Yet I mention Comcast's offer to Qwest (not the fact that I can't get it, of course), and the fact "1.5Mbps" usually constitutes 768Kbps-1Mbps, I'm down to $14.95 a month, unbundled.

Not karmic, I know, but when Qwest has never delivered more than 1.5Mbps since 2007 (256Kbps since 2004), you take what you can get.

I just called - they'd be happy to give me the $14.95 deal. I just have to get an unlimited phone from them. So for $60 a month I can get my same crummy internet, no tv, and a landline I'd never use. I don't think so. - sheureka

But I already have the unlimited phone package, and I was paying $35 per month for 7 Mbps. I called them and they switched me to $15/month, guaranteed for 60 months. I'm a happy camper.

IDK what you guys have..or can get..but I've had the 7/896 service for years for $38/mo locked in with PFL. My total phone bill is about $42 with landline and DSL.

I pay a bit extra to get a nice local ISP, but not really that much more. (19.95 vs the 10.00 or so for qwest.net)

Total is about $58/mo. for totally solid service. So much so, I use my banks auto-pay for both services.

My guess for those who can't get good service is:

A. You're in a rural area and have services by a DSLAM
B. You're in a rapidly growing urban area and it's saturated.

Urban sprawl sucks eh? Just because they build lots of houses to get rich on doesn't mean they plan on the infrastructure for them.

Ok forgetting taxes what landline is only $4 a month. 42-38=4 .
I couldn't find a 4 a month unless say magicjack or ooma.
There are some cheap paygo but no 911.
Plus some newer cheap promos some places require full blown tricked out phone service at extravagant rates killing the dsl saving. Get dsl cheap. Fine print pay many dollars for everything and kitchen sink phone service that most VOIP have way cheaper.

I did see a 19.95 for up to 12 on a Phoenix billboard today. Wonder what the fine print is.

I have the Washington Telephone Assistance Plan because of my SSI, it takes a few dollars off of the phone part. Plus, I don't have LD service or any other fancy stuff.

My last Qwest bill was $42.05

Or

C. You're serviced by Qwest.
