 | [Modem] Which Modem can I use for Earthlink DSL Hi Guys I just signed up with Earthlink DSL and I tried to use a Speedstream 4100 and it did not work. I have a 2Wire 2701-HG-B gateway and they say I cannot use it? Far be it from me to argue with tech support however I would like to buy a new modem off the net for cheap and try it. I see speedstream 5100 modem going for 5.00 to 15.00 all day long. There are 5100B modems available s well and not to mention the newer Speedstream models. Can anyone tell me why my 2wire gateway is not supported as well? They want to sell me the modem for shipping and 70.00(claim they will give me a rebate in the mail) Please reply as soon as reasonably possible as I am conidering buyin modem soon (like today or tomorrow). Thanks again Guys |

 | My earthlink dsl works fine with my at&t 2wire gateway. I also tried a netopia dsl gateway with it and it works fine. I don't see why any basic dsl modem would not work as long as you put in the username and password for your isp. |

There is no reason a Siemens 4100 should not work unless you don't have sync yet (Solid Green DSL LED) from not being provisioned or you don't have the correct VPI/VCI for Earthlink. said by matt8911:I have a 2Wire 2701-HG-B gateway and they say I cannot use it? If you have the knowledge to support yourself, then by all means use any DSL Modem that you like.
Here is a 4100 being used with Earthlink.

 | Hi Guys
I believe ATT already has provisioned my line. I was testing the SS 4100 with a low amp Power supply at first, so as to not burn out anything(300-400 mA) I have a few others that put out 500mA and maybe more than that I will have to check. Trouble is figuring out which unit was one supplied way back in 2006? (yeah I know it has a yellow sticky tag, but I only see one like that). I may have sent the wrong PS back with my 5100 which they asked for when I got my 2701HG-B 2wire gateway. I am still looking for the PS for the 2701HG-B and no luck I was going to buy a 5100 from ebay but if my 2wire will work then all I have to do is locate the PS and network cable. Thanks for all your help Guys you are the best Matt signing off.. |

The original power supply is available from AT&T.

Now I am questioning whether it is the provisioning that is the problem or the modem. When I get the 2Wire going that would probably answer my question on the provisioning. Still have to get the power supply as has been mentioned in other parts of this thread. Also, hesitating on investing any more money until I see if they can actually get me "turned on", so to speak. Thanks again Matt signing off (from the library D). |
