I5-2500K stock fan is loud

Hi...

I just purchased an I5-2500K with stock fan and a Gigabyte Z68X-UD3-B3 and the stock fan is quite loud. Can anyone recommend a quieter fan as the stock fan is annoying...

Cheers

I just purchased the same thing and got a Zalman cpns9900 max. I've always had good luck with them and they are pretty quiet.

Was about to post the same thing in regards to a AMD 955 BE. Stock fan is just too noisy when it heats up. Can anyone make any good recommendations. Don't care about OCing.

I'm cooling my i2500K with a whisper-quiet Arctic Cooling ACFZ13 92mm High Performance CPU - »www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···35186039 It's $5 cheaper when I got it - a good price now at $40

Won't be greatly overclocking other then slightly... but quiet is more important to me...Can these be run with a really big heatsink and no fan? Is such a beast available?

I frankly cannot hear the Arctic Cooler unit's fan over the other fans in my case (4 120s and the 120 in the power supply)

As to passive cooling for a CPU - I know they have that for Atom units and other low power chips - I am not sure I'd want a pure passive device just on the far chance that it was not enough. Actually, it wouldn't hurt anything even if it did overheat as it would just self-throttle.

You could always get a cooler that has a big heatsink and try running it with no fan, but I wouldn't recommend it - unless you kept careful watch on the temp to make sure it didn't get too hot.

Out of curiosity, what fan RPM is being reported? Is the motherboard controlling the fan speed properly?

The cpu fan precently is 1200. The fan seems to be a lot less noisy now... Yesterday at this rpm it was louder then my two case fans, I mean MUCH noiser...

My i5-2500K non-overclocked also runs around 1200 RPM at idle. It does get noisy when put under a load, but usually a game is being played and the sound effects drown it (and the GPU fan) out. I know you're doing photo rendering, but just make sure it's the CPU fan and not the GPU fan that's causing this issue.

It's the cpu fan for sure. I turned off the computer 7 unplugged. un hooked the fan and turned it on for a second or two. It was quiet. Powered off and hooked up the cpu fan. The sound came back...
