| reply to cabana Took the survey using Safari for Windows. No popups presented; but a TCP port viewer didn't show any connections. Hmmm.
Used a 'yahoo.com' disposable email address, and a phone number from my Caller ID list of incoming calls, one I knew was from a political call center soliciting donations.
Created a filter in the Yahoo! account to dump all email to that disposable email address in one particular folder.
Fed the survey a wad of false, but plausible data. Waiting to see what hits those folders. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum | | | reply to cabana Hi guys,

You've been told they're not affiliated with DSLREPORTS - and the hijack is not welcome. What steps are you going to take??

Not only does the SCAM SurveyPrizeCente.com intercept traffic and assume the identity of dslreports.com, the entire operation is rogue. There is no prize, only the harvesting of names, email addresses, and cell phone numbers for spamming. The testimonials are fabricated and total deception (Attention FTC), The same pics are assigned to multiple names depending on the IP location of the viewer.
A focus shot of the above:

another version: Jennifer, Julie, etc

Scammers, Spammers, and other assorted Cyber Criminals, frequently use anonymous cloaking services for domain registrations in a premeditated plan to hide the ownership details of domains set up for nefarious activities. The internet equivalent of conducting business while wearing a ski mask.
As expected, the scamming surveyprizecenter.com follows this rule, and has a recent cloaked registration: .
ICANN Registrar: ENOM, INC. Registration Service Provided By: Namecheap.com . Domain name: surveyprizecenter.com
Registrant Contact: WhoisGuard WhoisGuard Protected ()
Fax: 11400 W. Olympic Blvd. Suite 200 Los Angeles, CA 90064 US

Creation date: 19 May 2011 19:47:00 Expiration date: 19 May 2012 14:47:00
IP Location: - Ohio - Maineville - Beyond Hosting Llc
Let's begin the forensic hunting expedition right at the front door, audit surveyprizecenter.com and the surrounding neighborhood. Though there appears to be numerous domains on "Beyond Hosting LLC" worth looking at with respect to potential rogue online advertising, we will limit our initial review to the immediate neighborhood of the SCAM surveyprizecenter.com pop up hijacking while masquerading as an affiliation of DSLREPORTS.
An analysis of the immediate domains in that cluster indicate the following are "Next of Kin", so to speak, to
surveyprizecenter.com
IP= 8.29.132.122
Domain = apxtrkr.com
IP= 8.29.132.123

Domain = surveyprizecenter.com
IP= 8.29.132.125
Domain = extremecouponsnow.com
IP= 8.29.132.126
Domain = hotchatbook.com
As expected all are domain cloaked registrations, for example:
Domain name: nationalsurveyboard.com
Registrant Contact: WhoisGuard WhoisGuard Protected ()
Domain name: apxtrkr.com
Registrant Contact: WhoisGuard WhoisGuard Protected ()
Infringement, Name hijacking, pop up dns based intercept, total fake to dupe internet users into giving up their number for text spamming and their email address to spam harvesting:

a closeup of the above domain name from this siteshot
Possibly thousands of domains are subjected to this form of carpet bombing name hijacking & popup. You can see what the targeted domain is, as it is listed at the end of the PHP scripted string:

Total FRAUD and DECEPTION:

Not just misleading, deceptive and an impostor, a TOTAL Lie.
apxtrkr.com is, as its name indicates, is a tracking and script directing domain for the various scam popups.
This malware analysis shows the scripted routine:

Really, Oh Really !!
Started out simple enough:

I'm new to the getafreelancer.com community. I have over a decade of web development experience. I currently run my
own web design company and I am constantly looking to take on new projects. It is my goal to spread my company name
throughout the industry by providing customers with high quality, low cost web design and web solutions.

PageRank tweaking.
- Dual major in Communications and Media Production with a Masters in Information Systems Management from Quinnipiac
University, Hamden, CT, USA. Located in New Haven, CT.
>> What makes me different:
- I'm new to this community, thus I want to make the best impression as possible. Your website will be created by
someone with a decade of experience. It will gleam with professionalism, excellence and perfection.
- I'll take your website's competitors into account (if applicable). I'll make sure YOUR site is better than your
competitors in terms of aesthetics, ease of use, quality and functionality.
- I'm located in the USA. Your job won't be outsourced overseas to someone who hardly knows English or understands
how to deliver a site to an English-targeted audience.
- I won't expect payment until you are happy. I'll be there to update or make minor changes to your website for as
long as it takes to make it perfect. I'll supply you with my instant message names, personal e-mail and cell phone number.
Since then, progressed to a whole new level. Though many of the scripting jobs he recruits for are hidden, wonder why. Why go Rogue !!
Some of the jobs that are not hidden:

On form submit, you'll http post that form to a URL we will supply.
Your page must validate highly here: [obscured] /mobile/
If you can do a good job, we'll have plenty more WAP projects for you. Thanks!
DEADLINE is 6 hours. This should not take long. BUDGET is $30 max. Bids higher will be rejected.
Apparently these "issues" won't end anytime soon, a lot of nefarious stuff in the pipeline

We need 1 landing page. This includes the front index.php page, as well as the sign-up page ( [obscured]

Turnaround time needs to be QUICK, it shouldn't take 1+ week for a simple mockup. The way I like to work it is I
send you a few website designs for ideas/inspiration, we'll chat on Skype or elance to hammer out the specifics,
then you create 1-2 mockup jpegs. I have no interest in filling out design questionnaires, as they are not necessary
for landing pages, so please do not send them.
A LOT of potential design work $$$ if you can DELIVER. We reserve the right to cancel the project and hire another
designer if your first mockup doesn't meet our goals.

One can never know..... when you pick the wrong domain name to hijack for a fake survey and non existing prize.
Who knew !!
At the very least, this operation may routinely violate the FTC deceptive practices and standards, at worst, some of the scripting may violate Federal Computer Intrusion laws. Ignorance should not be an issue here.

But if you willingly give up your email address to the harvester, can you really call the results, "spam"? . Yes, most certainly the results are spam / UCE. They are knowingly sent by ANDREW PAUXTIS and his Apaxmedia, Inc. operation, in clear violation of the CAN-SPAM Act. Your logging of 454 emails within that period constitutes abusive bombardment IMO.
I believe your characterization of this as being only "sleazy", fails to consider numerous egregious factors in these cases. Most notable is the fact that victim's first & last names, cell phone numbers (for text spamming) and email addresses are obtained via "Phishing".
An internet user's visit to a website is intercepted, and a pop up masquerading as an authorized,legitimate page from the website is presented to the victim. The name of the website is prominently displayed in large bold letters. The intent is to deceive the victim and convince them that the website itself is conducting the survey. Victims may be lured into giving up their contact information on the belief that the website, which they may know and trust, is conducting a legitimate survey. In many cases they are told falsey that they have already won a prize.
Not only is this internet traffic interception and redirection probably illegal, but the established reputation of the legitimate website may be tarnished when the visitor gets repeatedly text and emailed spammed upon completion. In addition to this injury, there are gross trademark and copyright infringments via impersonation taking place.
All victim personal data name, email, cell phone, are obtained by fraudulent deception. Any subsequent use of this fraudulently obtained data by ANDREW PAUXTIS and his Apaxmedia, Inc, is illegal. Any quasi check off agreement accepted by the visitor on the bogus pages agreeing to future communications is therefore null and void.
NormanS Do you still have the spam data?. I would be very interested in seeing the domains that are being spammed published in the thread, in order to see who APAXMEDIA's customers are that are utilizing this nefarious method.
Apparenlty ANDREW PAUXTIS forgot to proof check his Apaxmedia, Inc APAXMEDIA.COM website. Besides pretending his "OFFICE", rather than his ECM mail drop box, is located on Park Avenue he also lists the Park Avenue zip code as 11758, which is actually the Massapequa, NY zip code of where Mr. Pauxtis lives.
