 | viatalk changes - billing cycles I have seen no word of this, but when I contacted viatalk to pay in advance for 1 year or more, I got a reply that they do not bill in these cycles anymore, only monthly.
I'm not happy with the monthly payments, but maybe they lost money with the yearly billing. |

| Yes they killed them some time ago. »Is VT killing the prepay plans?
Some of us managed to get 2 year renewals but think they stopped offering that. »12 months free? (when you renew for 12 months)
At end of my term in Jan 2013 will look elsewhere the new plans with taxes are not good deal for me. |

 dmolaviPremium join:2005-04-11 Sewell, NJ | reply to vhm_14u2c $199 / 12 months = 16.58/month. This isn't much less than the $16.95 / month they now charge.
Personally, I'll pay the extra $0.37 a month to avoid another Sunrocket fiasco. Getting money up front from customers with no monthly income in a business where you have monthly (or other recurring) costs (bandwidth, salaries, etc), isn't a viable business model for long.
That being said, I'll be more inclined to renew in 2013 if Brendan can get an Android app rolled out by then. It's only been 9 months since I initially posted that question (»Any word on an Android app?) -- NukedGallery.net GalleryModules.com |

 | reply to vhm_14u2c Honestly speaking, i never thought it to happen with services like viatalk. Many other services like Axvoice are still offering this kind of facility. I wonder what went wrong for viatalk and if that something is common then other internet phone services might be thinking of removing this kind of billing option too. |

I am betting the accountants got after them. One year and two year plans increase one's accrued liabilities and reducing them improves how the books look. |

 | reply to vhm_14u2c Thanks for all the replies, and the link to the thread regarding VT billing cycle changes. |

 | reply to mathfaster Agreed, common for companies to reduce liabilities to position for potential sale opportunities. It is a smart business move and can help prevent a s'rocket issue. |

 | That other thread is too old to reply to but Brandon said you'd renew at the same yearly rate unless we change something. But I assume that means there will just be the $199/yr plan and no more discounts. I've always gotten 18 or 24 months for the $199 price which is the reason I'm with VT. If I have to jump up to $199/12 I may just switch to cell phone only.
Or they do have the Residential LITE plan for only $11/mo. |

spal join:2010-04-15 Ventura, CA | I got a prompt to renew the service for $189 for 18 months today(09/16) whereas my renewal date was (12/14). So, I will suggest to hang on - you will get some kind of discounts. Now viatalk features work so perfectly for my need - I am not willing to switch to another provider and try out. Even though I wish they upgrade the platform to support HD voice ( like ooma) , minimize dropped calls - but I think, I have learned to live with those quirks. |

| Good to know. If you are lucky the might move that to $189 for 24 months as you get closer. Did we figure within 3 months. Will have to search for other thread.
I am still good until Jan 2013 so I have plenty of time not to worry about it. If I can keep the $189 for 2 years then I stay if not its off to Callcentric or Ooma. |

| reply to vhm_14u2c Last time I went to renew, there was only the 12 months for $199. It was suggested that I open a support ticket requesting the 18 months for $199 since I was told this would never change.
The next day (when I went to open a ticket) the pop-up offer appeared and I took advantage of that. Beware the pop-ups though - it's easy to hit "cancel" and have it disappear into the ether...
Try the Ticket route and let us know how that worked. |
