[DSL] ** New Interim speed rates for DSL in Ontario and Quebec *

Hey gang,

Here are the rates we have come up with. I'll just put it out there and I can explain from there. Please remember that these are only Interim rates while the CRTC proceedings are under way. The interim rates approved by the CRTC are also retroactive and so we tried being as careful as possible but still give a great monthly rate. The retroactive part is only between Bell and us and not to you guys.

New Packages (*existing packages are still available)

Ontario:

High Speed DSL – 12
Download Speed: 12M
Upload Speed: 1M
Monthly Bandwidth: 300GB
Monthly Pricing: $47.97
Start-Up Fee: $99.00
Modem: Any ADSL 2+ modem that is not “locked” to another ISP (customers can check with their modem’s manufacturer if their modem is ADSL 2+)
Activation Timelines: 5 Business Days

High Speed DSL – 12 (Dry Loop)
Download Speed: 12M
Upload Speed: 1M
Monthly Bandwidth: 300GB
Monthly Pricing: $47.97 + Band Rate (existing band rates)
Start-Up Fee: $99.00
Dry Loop Activation Fee: $19.99
Modem: Any ADSL 2+ modem that is not “locked” to another ISP (customers can check with their modem’s manufacturer if their modem is ADSL 2+)
Activation Timelines: 5 Business Days

Quebec:

High Speed DSL – 10
Download Speed: 10M
Upload Speed: 1M
Monthly Bandwidth: 300GB
Monthly Pricing: $44.97
Start-Up Fee: $99.00
Modem: Any ADSL 2+ modem that is not “locked” to another ISP (customers can check with their modem’s manufacturer if their modem is ADSL 2+)
Activation Timelines: 5 Business Days

High Speed DSL – 10 (Dry Loop)
Download Speed: 10M
Upload Speed: 1M
Monthly Bandwidth: 300GB
Monthly Pricing: $44.97 + Band Rate (existing band rates)
Start-Up Fee: $99.00
Dry Loop Activation Fee: $19.99
Modem: Any ADSL 2+ modem that is not “locked” to another ISP (customers can check with their modem’s manufacturer if their modem is ADSL 2+)
Activation Timelines: 5 Business Days

On our site, there will be a package for “High Speed DSL – 25” that will be listed as “COMING SOON”. We are hoping to have this package available as soon as possible, however at this time there are a couple of process that need to be clarified before it is launched.

If someone has our existing 640K or 5M DSL package and would like to switch to these new packages, the “Start-Up & Activation Fees” still apply.

For those holding out for the 25mbit service here is what that price will look like once we're ready to take orders;

Ontario

High Speed DSL 25, $67.97 $99 activation fee 300 Gig Cap

For Quebec

DSL à haute vitesse 25, $67.97 $99 activation fee 300 Gig Cap

So, again, these are interim rates that once the CRTC proceeding will be done we will revise everything. Generally speaking once somebody is on the correct profile I don't anticipate additional charges just to stay on it.

There's also no way to know how long the interim rates will stick. My own opinion is that it will likely be 4 to 6 months before final rates come out.

Will there likely be anything more in the middle, like say 7 or 8 mbps? (from the typical 5)....

Hi Mark (or other TSI people),

A lot of places in Quebec are limited to Fibe16, like my home. Why did you not include Fibe16 rates? Will you permit at least us to get Your new 25Mbps service (knowing that we will be limited to 16Mbps?)

Also, do you have any ETA to resell new speed for Videotron Cable TGV ? It could be another way of getting faster for people that can't get new Fibe rates

Hopefully the business rates are more reasonable. Too high, and I'll just hold on to my two bonded DSL lines.

Fibe16 is what I'm limited to at my home. I am very interested in rates for this speed, not so much so for the 10meg plan.

adsl2/2+ is ok i take it? TD-8816 would work? How would i know if my lines support the speeds? I am currently already on a dryloop... will i still need to pay the activation $99 + dryloop activation fee of $19?

Main concern is not knowing what my lines will support. I'll assume the TD-8816 is good for this as well

I'm baffled by the $99 startup fee. If you're an existing DSL customer why is there such a high fee to get Bell to change the profile from 5M to 12M? On the Bell site their activation fee for Fibe12 is $29.95, so why are 3rd parties being gouged for $99?
