Netflix has a huge longterm problem1) Content providers wanting to bend them over and charge large amounts for access to content. This causes reduced selection, content that expires, and price increases for customers.
2)ISP's who want to protect PayTV revenue. They want to impose caps and overages, which means now the customer will have to pay more money to ISP's to actually watch the streamed videos.
Their candle is burning on both ends and long term they either need to get so much power (ala iTunes) so that they can push back OR they are dead.
However, perhaps the content providers should consider something: They are making good money now. If they drive Netflix's costs too high or even deepsix them, guess what? Piracy will increase. ... and then how much money will they make....? |
