2wire modem settings for earthlink dsl

I spent two weeks talking with earthlink techs and at&t techs hours and hours every day, via telephone, chat, holding for customer service, etc etc. When I say I spent hours, please know it was 5 to 6 hours every day for two weeks and my skin was tingly with the stress of receiving absolutely no help from earthlink no help from at&t but they certainly blamed each other for the troubles I was experiencing.

To summarize, my modem all of a sudden stopped working. If I opened a browser an automated at&t screen appeared asking me to purchase their high speed internet, problem is my dsl service provider is earthlink, I have telephone service with at&t. My options were only to purchase at&t services. After the 3rd day of the same trouble I decided to try to follow the prompts and get at&t to offer me their wonderful dsl service they kept pushing... but then the next screen was "sorry but you are not our customer" so back to the first step and back to the phone with both companies... again both kept blaming each other nobody wanted to help, nobody wanted to listen.

I spent about 3 hours today googling information trying to find a post or something that would give me indication this problem has happened to someone else and that's when I came across a link posted by you to this link:

I followed the information and as you can see, I'm online writing you a thank you.

I wish I could drop at&t and earthlink immediately... but I am not so sure another company won't do the very same. I've been a customer to both of them since 1995. They obviously don't care and never have.
I'm just glad tonight I have finally fixed my situation... I'm more than dissapointed in their lack of response but I wanted to thank you. And via instant chat I also thanked the techs at earthnet.com in Boulder Colorado

THANK YOU

Glad to hear of your success in fixing your connection issue yourself. Good Work!

What Model 2Wire Modem do you have and did you get it from Earthlink or from somewhere else?

Earthlink supplied 2Wire Modems are preset with the Earthlink Activation Code and the Firmware setup pages are branded with Earthlink's logo.

All non-Earthlink supplied 2Wire Modems can use either of the two following activation codes.

Activation Keys
»www.2wire.com/?p=268

quote:
All other DSL providers

5225-26P4-6262-22AS-B2E7

Most Likely: Your Internet connection uses PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet). In this case, you would have been given a username and password to set up the connection.

OR

Manual set up

5225-2374-WG62-22AS-BJ7P

To manually configure your 2Wire HomePortal or OfficePortal.
Earthlink is primarily setup to support PPPoE and in some areas PPPoA is also supported. If PPPoA doesn't work or stops working then switch to PPPoE instead. PPPoE is the default in Earthlink supplied Modems.

Re: 2wire modem settings for earthlink dsl

I purchased the 2wire modem from an office supply store

As I followed the instructions I had found from your link to EarthNet: »www.earthnet.com/support/dsl/dsl···1700.htm

I could not bring up the browser listed as STEP 1, but their instructions were awesome and said 'if that doesn't work try the following address 192.168.1.254"... well, that didn't work either, but the instructions continued being awesome and said to bring up the command prompt via start/run/cmd

Then I got the black DOS window and typed upconfig / all and got the 'default gateway' address and opened a browser with the address listed. And I was able to then open the modem setup wizzard

I found the PPP authentication had an at&t email address and password... NOT MINE... and this was not done by me... it was done by at&t

the email address listed was attreg@att.net and there was a password

I overrode that information with my earthlink email address and passcode, the next screen said my connection status was verified, domain name server was found, configuration server was found, DSL found on line 1, login was successful, but the at&t message at the top was "CONNECTION ERROR, an error has occurred while making a connection to your service provider and the internet"

However, I was able to close the browser, restart and I was online

Thank you again for your site and for directing me to EARTH.NET... I spoke via chat with earth.net techs and asked if they provided dsl service for my area, they do not, they are in Boulder, CO. Thank you so much once again

at&t and earthlink have my complete dissatisfaction and I know they do not care about me as their customer, my hard earned money to make monthly payments to them hurts me deeply

Earthlink support should have known how to configure a AT&T firmware customized 2Wire to work with Earthlink DSL. They really dropped the ball on support.

What was the ip address of the at&t 2wire at&t uses 192.168.1.254 on all it's current modems
All the current at&t dsl modems have a factory preset pppoe username and password to ease setup for new users
