Re: So which D3 modem is the least craptacular?

Get the Cisco DPC3825.

Take your 5100 with you and they'll have you switch up to the DPC3825 by the time you get home.

When you get home, connect the DPC3825 and make sure it works as a router. Then call Rogers and have them put it in bridge mode.

It'll reboot (you may need to use a paper-clip to hard reset it but the tech will tell you). When it reboots, connect your router's WAN port to Port #1 of the DPC3825.

You're done. DPC3825 in modem/standalone/DPC3825 mode and DOCSIS3 on your own router.

Enjoy.

So it seems like there is some sort of shortage on these modems as it seems like none of the stores around Toronto have any new modems. I did manage to track one down, but they only had the SMC model. Is this model that much worse?

6120 is gone, it's now the 6121

Actually, you can buy a 6120 from Tiger Direct (if the link doesn't work try a search directly at Tigerdirect.ca) currently for $100. Also, if Rogers doesn't offer a stand alone modem with their Ultimate package, then why the hell does their website list renting one as an option?

»www.rogers.com/web/link/hispeedB···ltPlans# - looking at that page on the ultimate tab under hardware options there is an offer to rent a standalone modem for $4.00 a month, or buy it for $99 - since Rogers say they can't run D3 speeds on a D2 modem, what the hell are they offering? (I know this is probably just another case of the left hand not having a clue about the right, but maybe it's something you could call them on when they give you grief trying to provision a SB6120...)

Rogers modems ...

Bottom line is there is not a single modem only D3 unit ... the only ones being offered are gateways.

With the Cisco device in bridge mode, is there any way of accessing the modem log (like the old 5120 had it's default page at 192.168.100.1)?

The cisco responds to 192.168.100.1

Sorry for posting on an old thread, but I just upgraded my Rogers Motorola cable modem for the the Cisco DPC3825.

I was able to put it in to bridge mode myself -- without calling Rogers -- using the config pages at the cable modem's IP of 192.168.100.1.

Since the thread has been resurrected I might as well add that my new 3825 also came with the ability to put it into bridge mode via the web interface...not that I tried it since my old wireless router was only G not N, but I assume it works!
