 | Wildblue and the U.S. Recovery Act I received an advertisement via surface mail addressed to "RESIDENT" from Wildblue. Here are some excerpts: quote: Wildblue High-speed Internet. Out of the blue.
Wildblue is providing this new low cost program through the U.S. Recovery Act of 2009. Government stimulus funding will offset equipment and installation costs, and help lower the monthly cost of WildBlue service. The program requires you to live in an eligible area to qualify for the special pricing.
This is a one-tome offer, and Recovery Act funds are limited.
Special Recovery Act pricing $39.95 / month guaranteed for the life of your service!
NO activation fee.
1 Mbps download speeds
NO monthly equipment lease fees.
FREE standard installation.
Low Cost Broadband Initiative package only.
Minimum commitment term is 12 months.
Equipment must be returned upon cancellation of service otherwise unreturned equipment fees will apply.
Usage subject to data transmission limits.
Speeds not guaranteed.
Not available to current broadband customers, regardless of provider.
Offer available to new, qualifying customers only!

Because the download speed is up to 1 Mbps, it seems like WB is offering the Select Pack for $39.95 / month. Now there will be more customers piled onto beam 31 to slow it down further. This offer sucks for current WB customers. I grow ever more annoyed by being shafted by Wildblue. -- Value Pack, beam 31, Riverside gateway |

 | "Not available to current broadband customers, regardless of provider."
Since the current definition of "broadband" is 4 meg., I don't suppose we current users could get into this plan. I know they aren't allowing it, but if they are using the term broadband, maybe there would be a loop hole. Doesn't really seem fair to existing customers, for new customers to get twice the speed for $10 less, permanently. I would not have signed up for service if dialup worked reliably here, I "had" to get something when I did (as much as a person "has" to have internet). |
|
 | reply to Spice300 Yes, WB does not include dial-up, HughesNet nor Wildblue as broadband. But WB specifically states that existing customers are not eligible. One can not even cancel the current service and sign up for a new account. An existing customer might be able to qualify if he installs WB at a new location. If one moves and uses a different credit card, then WB's system might not recognize the same person.
The U.S. Recovery Act might be requiring the participants to be new customers, but still they're treating their existing customers like dirt. -- Value Pack, beam 31, Riverside gateway |

 | I just didn't know if the wording of the actual act stated that ("broadband"), and WB is possibly the one stating no current customers (if that issue isn't brought up in the act). I didn't read it of course, because I already know what the answer is, lol.
Between seeing this offer that a person can't get, and seeing after waiting these last couple years for this new satellite that won't service me, I'm a bit ...frustrated. |

HAH! Nobody in their right mind would switch from broadband to satellite. So I think putting in that little disclaimer was a waste of time. |

|
 | The U.S. government buys the equipment the first time, and it has a 2 year warranty. After that, the customer probably has to buy new equipment when it breaks. -- Value Pack, beam 31, Riverside gateway |

 | reply to mogamer I signed up for Wild Blue and their Recovery Act on July 6th. (They didn't even ask if I had other internet service) My provider right now can't give me reliable service as we can't see the tower. So far I've had eight calls from Wildblue stating that I have an open-ended install date and to call them. After eight times of being told that there are no available installation dates, I'm wondering just what I'm in for if I ever do get this thing installed. I'm not all happy already and I'm not even an official customer yet. Who in the world do I talk to?? |
