| [Config] Can anyone please help with my configuration? Hi,
i need if possible, some one to go through my config for my 1841 to see what is not quite right ? All seems to be correct as far as the settings go .. ip addresses / nat / pinging others etc but unable to access the internet ?
One thing i have noticed in my nat translations is the addresses in there are not right and the protocol is udp ? should tcp be in there ?
If you can help please pm me so i can pass you the text file with the log on it as i dont want to advertise ip addresses if ok ?
thanks all this site is a great help |
|
 | Any particular reason why you can't put up your config (minus public IP addresses, passwords) for review?

To be honest i did not think it was safe to do so ...
so i have now removed it but if anyone needs it then pm me. |

 | reply to Mcbosher 1) not sure why your FE0/0 is set for half-duplex. Any particular reason?
2) the NAT command shows you actual connections being made by inside hosts. So all you need to validate is which PC 192.168.0.9 is and whether it has an active connection to 38.113.165.83 or not.
3) this was mentioned in another thread, try add "ip routing" in your config to make sure it's turned on.

| hi, i have normally enabled ip routing but then ive not been able mto find it listed in the config ?
There is no reason duplex is set that way .. i will change it ..
there is obviously x2 connections and one is my internet and the other my internal lan .. when you say validate what do you mean ? also who and where is this 38.113.165.83 ? there is just me and the router and the broadband from my cable modem ?
thanks for your help

 | reply to Mcbosher Well, your NAT is defined correctly and you get translations both outbound and the inbound response to a public IP address (38.113.165.83).
For all intents and purposes, you seem connected to the Internet.
From the router itself, can you ping something on the internet like 8.8.8.8? If that works, how about on a host on your private LAN? Do you get a translation when you ping from the host? |

| Hi, I found that the ip 38.113.165.83 is for my antivirus .. kaspersky so it seems it can call out, my problem is as i kinda explained before is that i know it seems set up correctly but nothing works on the internet and yes i can ping my public ip from my internal lan i just need to try and ping 8.8.8.8. I noticed that it was a udp conection which has led me to belive it may be a firewall issue ..no? im only asking as im not 100% sure what else it could be? i have changed the mac address too so its spot on for my isp and that is the other thing i want to ask ... Look at my config above and see the 81.111.102.253 .. that is supposed to be my internet address but the subnet coming from the modem on dhcp is 255.255.252.0 and not as above 255.255.255.255 ? also further up fa0/0 is manually set @ 255.255.255.0 and is showing 255.255.255.255 ? again further up the gateway of last resort must be comming from my cable modem but again my ip is 81.111.102.253 so why is it not in sh ip route ? Its in the Arp but in the Arp the wrong Ip address is showing as up for 9 min ? it should be 81.121.102.253 ? I dont understand ? thanks again for your time |

| Hi, I think you may have hit the nail on the head there, I have not set any dns on either the router or clients. Just gonna see what my modem is giving for dns there and set that into router but what do I put in the pc's & servers ? The routers ip ? |
|
bigsy join:2001-07-18 UK kudos:1 | I notice on the config you have above you have no DHCP set up for the LAN.
Look at the posting from elnino in your first thread about assigning DHCP/DNS. »[Config] Need help configuring 1841 for lan broadband please ? |

| Hi, i do not have any dhcp or dns servers on my internal lan so i can only do static as i have tried dhcp and nothing happens on the internal lan side the other reason is my isp is mac authorised and the dhcp works fine on that connection from my cable modem as its getting it from there. i thought that if i could get dhcp working on internal lan it would alll be automatic and deal with it all but it seems not ? |

bigsy join:2001-07-18 UK kudos:1 | Have you read this? »Cisco Forum FAQ »Configure router as DHCP client using external modem In particular: Keep in mind that there are two DHCP process on this sample configuration. One is between your ISP and the router, and another is between the router and machines within your LAN. |

If you don't have DHCP server for your LAN machines, you can use your router as DHCP server handing out assigned IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS server IP addresses.
When there is no local DNS server, you can use your ISP DNS servers. Issue show dhcp server command on your router to find out which DNS servers your ISP uses. You then simply implement those DNS server IP addresses in your DHCP configuration. |

| Hi and a big thank you to all you guys that helped me out with this...
Got it sorted now ... and it would not be possible without you pro`s out there and a few days of banging my head off a wall.
It was the dns servers that was stopping me getting web sites etc on my browser but hey .. thanks to you all its ok now.
