Seattle: Home of the 78-minute summer

»www.komonews.com/weather ··· 443.html
quote:
The mission: Find out how many minutes it's been at 80 degrees or warmer this year-- what I would call a true warm summer day in Seattle.

The answer: 78 minutes.

Or, breaking it down: 12 minutes on July 2, and 66 minutes on July 6.

[...]

It turns out, we've had a whopping 18 hours and 48 minutes of temperatures above 75 this summer -- hey, it's more than 2/3rd of a day! Never mind that some cities like Dallas haven't been below 75, day or night, since June 23rd.

(On the other hand, Paine Field in Everett has yet to reach 75 this year. Their highest temperature has been 74.)

It not the (lack of) heat, it's the (excessive) humidity!

looking at the oven like temps in the midwest, I'm not complaining too much.

I'm not complaining either (spring is my favored season, BTW) -- just noting that how different (lucky?) we are. Of course with Aug/Sep still ahead, we can still have 100+ temps.

See, that's how the bad stuff starts
we're at a comfortable 68ºf, and the somebody says " +1º" and then somebody else chimes in with another, and before you know it we're in the triple digits, feelin' like slugs on a bar-b-que with a salt crust.
Therefore I propose, that during the season others call summer, the correct term of appreciation be -1º and during the rest of the year we revert to +1º.

BTW, before everyone get carried away, here's an article from Seattle Times: »seattletimes.nwsource.co ··· 08m.html
"Our new 'normal' weather: wetter and warmer"
quote:
Consider this: For years, the "normal" annual rainfall at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport has been listed as 37.07. Come Aug. 1, that will rise nearly a half-inch, to 37.49 inches.

At the same time, Seattle's year-round "normal" high temperature jumps half a degree, from 59.8 degrees to 60.3. The normal low temperature also rises, 44.8 to 45.

Not sure if this apply outsiders south of the border -- warmer is very likely, wetter is likely.
