 | reply to McBane How are so many of you getting sub-10ms ping times? Are you just in more ideal locations than I am? I'm north of Tampa, on the 35/35 plan, and ping times in the low 20's are about the best I can do. I've tested through Tampa, Miami, Atlanta, and Jacksonville.

That's the Jacksonville test. Ping to Miami is also 33, to Atlanta is 38, and to Tampa is 55, even though it's the closest test to me. Speeds are reasonably close among all test sites.
I'm not using Verizon's router at all. I'm using Ethernet off the ONT, into my own router (Asus RT-N16, running dd-WRT), with a gigabit wired connection to the router. I'm the only user of the connection. I thought I could cut a few milliseconds off the ping time, by cutting the VZ router out of the path. Since most routing moved from Atlanta to Miami, this is no longer the case. |
