U-verse is a brand. ATT (formally SBC) actually HAS FTTH networks around their footprint that use the U-Verse brand.

Karl's article is WRONG in saying that ALL of the service areas are DSL when in fact it is NOT true at all. Granted the FTTH areas are limited in size but it's the fact that T does have them and operate them. And they were built under Ed's control.

AT&T's FTTH areas have the exact same restrictions placed on them as their FTTN systems. So it really doesn't matter. They're getting artificially restricted to keep them in line with the 95%+ percentage of U-verse users on copper.
