My connection has dropped aperiodically over the years, but since mid-2011, it has become much worse. The connection is up and down all day long. My modem and wireless router were a few years old, so I bought a new wireless DSL modem (combo). I configured it with no problems, and thought it had solved the problem. Nope! Within a few minutes, the service dropped out again. It's now up and down; I did not have a hardware problem. It's a signal quality problem. I would not advise anyone in my area to buy AT&T DSL service, unless they fix their lines.

have you thought about checking the sync rate your combo unit is syncing up at? that might have a bit to do with it.
