[availability] 30/15 Fairpoint FAST $39.99/month w/2yr contract

Click for full size
I just checked the Fairpoint.com page this morning and saw a pretty darn good deal.

Right now I'm paying $37.99 for 5/2 Fairpoint FAST internet. This promo speed/pricing can't be beat by anything else available in my area (Hudson, NH). I'll be giving Fairpoint a call first thing on Monday. I'll update on how it turns out...

I had fios back when verizon had the service. We had merged to fairpoint when verizon sold. Currently on cable. Still have the Fios box on the house and I called to get the 30Mbps deal they said there is a $249 install fee with that promotion? Told them I already had the equiptment installed on the house all they needed to do was activate it. Yeah still $249. Thanks but no thanks.

That sucks to hear they're trying to stick you with that installation fee. There shouldn't be much to do if all the FIOS/FAST equipment is already installed. I'd try calling again and talking with a different rep.

Well I called Fairpoint on Monday afternoon and asked for the 30/15 FAST promo. It was all pretty painless to do and there was no activation/install fee. The representative said it would take effect sometime on Wednesday.

Just after 12AM Wednesday morning I powered up the PC and it was in effect. =)

Up above are my before and after speeds. So far I'm very impressed.

nafets: Thank you very much for bringing this to my attention. I just upgraded my 15/15 and 5/2 FiOS/FAST accounts to dual 30/15 and saved money. Testing has to wait for a few days for implementation.

No fee was required for the upgrade; naked FAST was available if I wanted it ($5 fee in lieu of a phone bill); price after two years was asserted to be the same.

Thanks for the heads-up; I just upgraded my 15/15 FAST connection and will save $12 or so a month. No additional fees.

These speeds illustrate the difference between the limits of DSL and the capability of optical fiber as architechted by Verizon and renamed FAST by Fairpoint. The basis for the pricing, however, is a mystery to me.

They price high, when there is no other option but them.

What ever you do don't get fairpoint. 4g wireless is faster then them fuck 3g has better down and up speeds and less packet loss then them. they have been screwing their customers for the last 2 years dont get them. go to there facebook page fairpoint telecommunications and go to there wall and sort by most recent and read whats been going on before you consider getting them. they are only good for business hours anything after that or on the weekends and your gonna not even be able to watch a low res vid on youtube.

On Monday I checked my speed and it appeared my FAST upgrade order didn't "take"; I was still at the 15M/15M tier. I called FairPoint and they said they would raise a ticket. Last night when I checked I was at the 30M/15M tier.

Today I was very impressed when I received a call from someone at FairPoint to verify that my speed upgrade did indeed "take". Someone at FairPoint is trying harder, and that's nice to see.
