Tropical Storm Don

Skip to the end of this tread for new info.

This one seems to be the first storm to have the best chances to be something this season.

This one could become Don.

Re: Invest 90

Indeed, I suspect that entry into the Gulf of Mexico could cause this cyclone to rapidly intensify before landfall.

Ahhh.. I can now rest even when there is something out there. Just sold my South Florida home and no longer need to worry about these.

Although will still keep an eye on them with family still living down there.

Just taking a look at 3AM, it's starting to look a bit more organized with increasing convection. There is an area of strong shear on the southern edge of the system. If it gets into that it'll be blown apart in no time. As for now it looks to be in a favorable spot.

It's interesting to see that the NHC is only giving this one a 10% chance of development, while the model predictions are saying that it should be a tropical storm by Wed.

The NHC hasn't even assigned a floater to this system. Perhaps if they ignore it, it'll go away.

Currently 30 MPH winds, and a 70% chance. Sat imagery tends to show a decrease in the shear to the south of it. All the models have it as tropical storm in 18-48 hours.

This is looking better, a low intensity storm to come over Central and North Texas to give us some drought relief.

Tropic Storm Warnings up for Brownsville and the southern tip of Texas, with TS Watches up the coast to just south of Galveston.

Looks like it will miss me in the DFW area, but still bring needed rain the South Central Texas.

Don
Has really picked up his skirts and is scooting right along out in the Gulf. The Track may be a bit left (South) of the current predictions. Looks like it is going to bring quite a bit of moisture into Texas. I'm sure they won't mind too much.

Don has some pretty healthy convection this morning, and still moving quickly to the West. He's got quite a wobble going right now the NHC is still thinking Don is heading NW 100 or so miles to the North of Brownsville. They may be correct on that, at least as far as the low level center of circulation is concerned. From the recon data, the circulation is on the North edge of the convection. The center of Don is still just a bit outside of radar range, but should be visible on long range radar by noon if not sooner.

Right now the models generally have the storm system staying on a mostly WNW track across Southern Texas or into Mexico. I would expect it or it's remnants to eventually turn to the right and move more North later on bringing some rain next week. We'll just have to wait and see.

It seems don has arrived in Texas, right at the mouth of the Rio Grand.

It looks like the Dry Texas air just sucked the life out of Don. He's not even producing much rain and most of the high cloud tops are gone. Perhaps it brought enough moisture in with it that it can break the current dry weather pattern in that area.

OK just have to play devils advocate did you REALLY EVER think it would or just Weather Channel sensational cheer leading?

I may look here first, but I will got to NWS KW physically 2 blocks down the street (talk about a local forecast)., or the Navy and Coast Guard sites... before anything for reality, vs speculation and media cheer leading.

Notice you always hear about Key West BEFORE and never after, even when Katrina came here first unpredictably... and warned those in NO this is not a bitch to be messed with, or fourth major storm of 2005 Wilma that but 70% of Key WEST under water.

near the higher ground still had 4 ft in my yard... and 28" in the house..... anyone ever hear of that.

I'll just say 2 mo after Katrina and NO the Red Cross and FEMA were Johny on the Spots....

We were in the hurricane of the month club that year.... Dennis that uprighted an badly sunk artificial reef ship in JULY, Katrina in Aug, Rita in Sept, and the killer Wilma in Oct (the storms that usually are most severe here)
