We're Nor-Calinos...

To us they're almost always speed bumps

(and I pray they stay that way)

I'm too far inland.
I did felt someone/something moved my chair when I was sleeping ... err working on my desk.

That's a pretty good distance from which to feel a M4.0.

I know, right? If you look at the shakemaps, the mountains are a purple color. Fremont is untouched per the map (verified from a buddy working there, who didn't feel a thing)

Just talked to my father in the Oakland hills – he said he was in Safeway, felt a strong jolt. He just got home and said several things had fallen off shelves.

On that much fill, of course you didn't!

I just realized I know nothing about the ground composition of Alameda.

This one felt weird, just one big jolt and then nothing. I was in the city (financial district) at the time. When I first looked at the USGS site it said 4.2 but it has been downgraded to 3.9 after review.

Not all of Alameda is landfill. The area where I'm at is not landfill.

There was a bang, not far off, a rumble, and a significant jolt with attendant further noise and sideways wiggle here, near MacArthur and Fruitvale, pretty close to epicenter. The rumble and bang is pretty characteristic of the little quakes I experience; this one got the heart pumping...no damage, afaict.

Yeah, it was pretty odd.
I felt the initial wave, which was a big jolt, strange noise, things rocked for a few seconds, I could feel which direction the wave came from.

I remember a quake that hit San Juan Bautista a few months ago, it was a 4.0, I could feel the direction that the wave came from (SE from where I was sitting), but I could feel little ripples as the ground moved.

The quake today was not like that.

I sure felt that one as well as hearing it.

Silly cat left claw marks in my lap when it hit.

Initial report is 4.2 with an epicenter close to that of the 14:41.

Was on the phone with a friend in Santa Clara who reported it hitting before I felt it.

This one felt stronger to me (vs. earlier quake), and I could feel the ripples.

Hmm, is it even weirder that there also was a 4.8 in southern TEXAS today. OK maybe that preacher guy is right this time about the end of the world tomorrow.
