[OC] Old school jumper based overclocking

Some one give me their old system. It is an P5A Super Socket 7 motherboard »web.archive.org/web/200003031629···dex.html and it has an AMD K6-2 300 CPU, 128MB RAM, 6GB HDD, it had an Rage 128 GPU but it didn't work so I tossed in an 3Dfx Voodoo 3. Since I can not over clock it in the BIOS and it is all jumper based, how can I make the 300Mhz run at 350Mhz with a standard fan?

Grab the manual from the Asus site: »support.asus.com/download/downlo···odel=P5A

Page 16 has the various jumper settings.
Jumpers FS3, FS2, FS1 and FS0 should be set to: 100/66/33MHz for CPU/AGP/PCI speeds.
Jumpers BF0 BF1 and BF2 are probably currently set for a 3x multiplier (3x100=300) just set it for a 3.5x multiplier (3.5x100=350) and that should do it.

Thanks I'll give it a try. Worst thing that can happen is I fry the CPU and good thing it's a free system that I didn't pay for. lol

A 50MHz O/C probably isn't going to make that much difference though.

Also might want to put new thermal paste on the cpu (clean the old stuff off first with rubbing alcohol). If it's the original stuff, it's probably long past it's usefulness.

A 16% OC was huge way back then.

How would it run with the standard heatsync/fan cooler? I have no other ways to cool that type of CPU. All of my spare coolers are Socket 478 and LGA775.

It should be ok if you don't push the cpu more than the 350MHz you're looking for. They probably used the same cooler for both chips (the 300 and the 350).

Before you OC you may want to use something like coretemp and stress test it with prime95 or orthos for 10-20mins to see what the current temps are. Then do the OC and do a stability test.

@AlphaOne: that's true.
