[DIRECTV] Splitter issues, 13v can not be split?
As to what I am saying, is there a limit of 2 receivers only for a 13v transponder to work properly,
Because apparnetly it seems that my mom thinks the round 18 inch dish setup can work up to 4 receivers, but it appears that won't work because the 13v Odd channels can not process,
And I need to know if a multi switch can not work unless there is more than 2 LNBs and not the standard single LNB for an 18 inch Round dish?
Because my mom can not understand that this single dish with a single LNB can not work with more than 2 receivers, due to voltage loss of the 13v LNB output?

I don't think you quite understand how this stuff works either. A lot of new DirecTV equipment fielded in the last couple of years has actually been single wire - by design.
How about starting with
(a) exactly what kind of outdoor equipment you're talking about, to include cable configuration
(b) exactly what kind of indoor equipment you're talking about, to include splitters/amps and cable configuration
(c) exactly what it is you're wanting to do with that equipment.

Any ZInwell 6X8 Mulitiswitch NOT a Spliter) will work with a 18" round SD dish using only two feeds from from the dish---To connect it the two wires from the dish go into 1 & 2 (ports top) The Lines to each receiver then connect to ports 1-8 So you can connect 8 SD receivers or 4 SD DVR's to your D* system.
To see the zinwell 6x8 go to solidsignal.com
If the dish feeds Now go to each receiver then you will need to cut them, install Connectors and then connect the switch.
If your mom has HD service then you will need a different type of mulitiswitch-We need more info from you.

If your mom is in the "dinosaur age" of D* and is still using a single LNB 18" dish, then NO, she is limited to one receiver as far as I know. AFAIK, the old 18" dishes came in single and dual LNBs. There should be multiswitches that handle them if needed to go from 2 to more IF you have a DUAL LNB dish; but newer dishes and channels added the 18v range.
There are four possibilities for signals now:
With an older single LNB then it can only do one thing at a time. It can't provide a 13v+ channel AND a 13v- channel at the same time since it has just ONE LNB. A multiswitch just keeps all 4 (or 2) LNBs powered at the different levels and then switches the receives to the appropriate LNB as they need it.
You could buy a replacement dual LNB cone and attach it to the current dish or upgrade the dish to a newer style yourself (see solidsignal.com or ebay). Then add extra receivers thru a multiswitch. Or, if she is a long term D* customer, she should be certainly eligible for free upgrades (with a 2-year commitment likely). Hope this helps.
