PPPoE username/password - created during activation?

Just made the leap from cable to DSL now that Qwest is offering VDSL2 in my neighborhood. Qwest shipped an Actiontec Q1000, but I intend to put it in bridging mode, and use a Netgear WNDR3700 as the wireless router. To do that, I'll need to know the PPPoE username and password to authenticate with.

The Q1000 is preconfigured with a username of "connect@qwest.com" and an unknown password. I'm assuming that's just a temporary account used to get to an activation portal? If so, does that portal allow me to create my own username and password that I can enter into the router?

Years ago when I had Qwest ADSL the username and password were provided on the order paperwork, but this time it only lists an account number and an order number.

Thanks in advance for any information from folks who have gone through this already.

The default username and password route your browser to a setup site that will automatically replace them with your new credentials once you authenticate with your DSL number.

Thanks for the confirmation about the setup site. Will it display the username/password during the activation process so I know what to enter into the router after activating bridged mode?

user name only and password is ******* in the modem GUI. If you select manual install during the initial setup it should display your user name and password so you can input it into the modem yourself. Worst case senerio you could call the support line and get the info.

When I subscribed to Qwest about one year ago, the username and password were automatically generated. In order for me to obtain the password, I once had to call Qwest to get it (so that I could put my modem in bridge mode also).

Now, CenturyLink owns Qwest, so I don't know how they are not doing it. As was suggested above, I would call their Support if it does not seem readily available to get the info you need (at least for the password; the username should show up if you log into your modem).

Well, good news and bad news.

The good news is that I have the username and password.

The bad news is that I have it because there is no DSL signal whatsoever on the line, and I had to call tech support. While they were unable to dispatch a tech since the order is apparently not finalized in the system yet, they did provide the username/password as part of the troubleshooting process. I'm away for the weekend, so I'll have to pickup the troubleshooting again next week.

Sorry to hear that. Good luck to you....You'll get it sorted, and be up and running in no time.
