[Eastern Ontario] Cogeco internet overage/meter broken.

Click for full size
stupid meters
Cogeco bandwidth meter page not updated last two days. Now I am over and will get overage charges. Thanks a lot Cogeco! I thought that if companies were going to have charge for overages that they need to have working meters/monitoring systems. If you are not able to get your stupid meters working, why not just throttle?

See my post in A Lurkers' thread. I know exactly how much usage I had on the 29th and 30th, and even with that I know I have not used 85%.

Unless the automated email system is glitched, then they are counting the data from July 4-7. That is the only way I have hit 85% this month.

Totally hilarious.

And to think there's a group of people on DSLr that actually defend the accuracy of Cogeco's meters.

Laughable.

This all belongs in a courtroom. Pick a jury of 12 reasonable people and see how much of this crap flies with them.

Look at the top:
"Due to a web page data display issue that occurred from July 4th to July 7th, 2011 and to avoid any inconvenience for our customers, Cogeco will not include the Internet consumption of these four days in your July consumption total. "

Yes, but I believe the automated usage warnings are including that consumption. My router usage puts me at 85%, in keeping with my warning email, but includes data from July 4-7 and 29/30.

My Cogeco web usage has me at 50% of my cap, and therefore should not be triggering a warning email.

I get the same warning evern though im at 80 as well. I think the message icludes those 4 days. The last 3 days I have 0s on my usagae again. Doo you think these days will count toward or monthy usage. This company is a joke. If you are going to use this meter get it together.

The meter continues to track bandwidth even if it is not displayed. As soon as that email goes out, know that (they think) you are at those percentages. I never understood why the email warning system can know up-to-the-minute what our usage is, but they can't display that number to us.

There is an alternative though, you can phone in and ask for your totals whenever in doubt, and the techs have always given me up to date information on the spot. A bit of a hassle, but worth avoiding overage charges.

I just checked my usage and got this message.

Your current total Internet usage represents 86.83% of your monthly limit.
You are WITHIN your monthly limit.

Please note that the information on this page was last updated on 28 July 2011 inclusively.

I have received the 85% and 100& letters this month even tho I am @ 86.83%
How am I to use my bandwidth up without going over if the meter is three days behind?

steveb1986

@cgocable.net

I just called up Cogeco to check my internet usage. The CSR confirmed that my total usage matches what is listed online on my account which shows July 29th and 30th as 0GB and I received my 85% and 100% warnings in my email inbox.

Funny enough, he said at the end of the call that I am no where near my limit so I should go nuts and download a lot.

Hopefully these two days will not count just like the others in early July since I've downloaded at least 10GB during these days.

I'll be taking a screen shot and if I get billed extra I'll be calling to complain.

Okay, I just got my 100% internet usage email as well, and I KNOW we are not over our limit. We had 19gb left on the 28th, last day the meter is reading, and theres no way we used over 6gb/day. I knew we were close and have not been downloading anything. I called tech support and of course they have no information for me, the meter is "down" and they say the emails -are accurate- but they can't provide me with my actual usage data. What the heck. So the server knows my usage, but you can't tell me? Cogeco has lost a point with me today. I will be calling them back if we are charged for some bogus overage they claim once the meter is working again.

Just imagine if every Cogeco customer stopped being a sheep and took this posture all the time.

In 60 days or less Cogeco would be on its knees begging mercy.

Yep, I'm showing 0 usage for the last three days of the month.

Because of a web maintenance, the display of consumption data from July 29th onward has been temporarily disabled.

Consumption data continues to be measured and will be made available to you shortly.

What kind of maintenance causes days to just not be displayed?

I don't have any details on the maintenance unfortunately as I work over the phone in technical support and this was a maintenance done on our website during the last weekend.

I just wanted to let you all know that this is a known issue and is being worked on.

yep thats what people need to do Mike.

I swear, im cancelling as soon as I know when my grab n go kit is going to be installed (days).. if I dont get compensated. I've posted my usage from router/cogeco in another thread here as well. I dont mind paying for what I use.. not for what I dont use.

From there I'm hopping to TEK again. 7.99 for 4 months internet, even with 10/month for insurance is a good deal for 25/7 (ill get the max) AND I can try it out before tek gets it!

That is precisely the purpose of Measurement Canada and the Weights & Measures legislation and regulations - to ensure Canadians get what they pay for. Every Canadian should be up in arms that these companies are permitted to carry on like this while their government sits on its hands in ignorant bliss sipping Incumbent Koolaid and counting payola.

People need to start asking MC and the MOI - and their MP - why they are taking a backseat on this.

It's truly sickening.

Will it even matter? What we need is a change in government - and precisely the reason why I didn't vote Conservative. I can write to the MC and MOI and it'll be filed in the Office of Shredding Affairs and even if a majority of us wrote to our MPs they'd likely just follow the mandate of their leader, and if your MP isn't Conservative you're really just wasting your time at that point.

That's what really sickens me. What ISPs are getting with is indicative of how our government represents and assists Canadians.

So we will continue to be charged for overage that we cannot even see??!?!?!?! That's just great.
