Hotels there are expensive because it's a very highly-concentrated area in terms of corporate and business type folks.
Depending on where your other destinations are in the area, you have other options. Where else do you plan on visit in the area?
FWIW, I see you are in WV. I had to go there last November for a wedding and paid $120 a night for a hotel, but my options were limited. |

Downtown Philly is easy to get to from practically anywhere in the Philly metro area.
Same with Valley Forge thanks to the major roads that all go through the area (I-276/I-76, US202). Check out the suburbs in Bucks/Montgomery/Delaware counties and you should be able to find reasonable rates. There are several hotels near the historic areas of Philly and from time to time deals can be found. |

where is the cheapest hotel in the area? I also noticed alot of the cheaper hotels have satellite tv which only gives me 20 channels and I can't watch the phillies. |

The cheapest hotels are probably the ones that can be rented by the hour on Route 1 in Trevose, near Exit 351 of the PA Turnpike just outside Philly. However, in that general vicinity there are other options such as a Comfort Inn, Quality Inn, Sleep Inn, Holiday Inn, etc. A couple of those might come in right around $100 or slightly under for 2 adults. If you stay in that area, you're about 20-25 minutes east of Valley Forge (5 turnpike exits). Alot of people stay in that general area when visiting Sesame Place, Parx Casino, various places in Philly, etc. I-95, US-1, and the PA Turnpike are all closeby so it's somewhat easy to get around. I believe the city of Philadelphia has some kind of new hotel tax I remember reading about. So, I don't think it's actually any cheaper to stay in the city limits. |

As someone who has lived here practically my whole life, I'm inclined to think that there is practically zero chance of finding a hotel for under $75 in the Philadelphia metro area that isn't infested with various vermin AND/OR also being used for drug trafficking, prostitution, or other illicit activities.
But, give priceline.com a try. I set the price to a max of 75 and it pulled up 28 hotels in the Philly area. Most of them were in areas I wouldn't want to stay, but maybe you'll get lucky.
Good luck. |

I used to Priceline the Extended Stay in Plymouth Meeting for 40 dollars a night. I'll bet you can still get it for under $60.00. |
