You can update using the in-product updater beginning in the AM Pacific Time Wednesday August 3rd. If you have SAS installed and don’t want to wait until the 3rd, you can download it from download.com on August 2nd and it will install right over-the-top of previous versions.

I don't want to sound like an idiot, but what the heck? Download the free version and install your key to get the full Pro version if you have the pro version! Does this mean that the internal update doesn't work on this version or what?

I have updated my first post with more info and I did install the free version over the Pro version without issues as it will ask if you want to remove the older version!

I will wait a few days/weeks to ensure no big bugs. I assume v5 free still work under Windows 2000 SP4. On my XP Pro. SP2 test box, I noticed it uses service now.

Are you saying that there are actually are no more pre-release candidates????? lol Awesome that v5 is finally here. I'll wait a while too before installing SAS 5. SAS has not yet been installed on my system. I haven't used the product for about 3 years. I do own a Pro lifetime license.

Holy crap they made it even faster. Scan type: Complete Scan
Total Scan Time : 00:06:36
this Complete scan was of two separate 160 GB HDDs.

I really like the new interface, and updates are fast and without the extra kludge that I always got with the previous version. Scheduled scanning is in the background and nothing pops up, it just works. This is in Windows XP SP3. Added: I actually did see the window pop up for a scheduled scan at 2:00 AM, so in that way, it is similar to the previous version but the scan is definitely faster.

Is there a 64-bit installation option in the download? Does the installer have both 32 and 64 bit versions, and bases the install on the OS? I want a 64-bit version for Win 7 Home Premium.

Only thing for me after doing the shutdown/restart to finish the install, had a window from SAS saying that my Trial Period had ended; had to go through my files to find my SAS Pro license number to activate/use SAS.

It's the same download for both when it installs it knows which version you are using 32bit or 64bit and installs in the correct directory! I'm using it on Win 7 64bit! I noticed one preference I had to put back was the auto-update to check every 8hrs for new definitions. Other than that everything went pretty smoothly on my laptop using the internal updated.

I finally installed its free version (clean install after uninstalling the old one) on my updated old XP Pro. SP3 and 64-bit W7 HPE. So far so good.

I finally tried it on two old, updated W2K SP4 machines and got a service bug during its installation. It seems their QA didn't test it in the old OS.

I finally got it by the auto update. Nice!!!!!

Well I just installed it for the first time on Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit. I had put this program to rest a looong time ago (nearly 3 years) after all the issues I had with SAS v4.x on Windows XP 64-bit and Windows Vista 64-bit. I am very pleased to report that SAS Pro v5.0.1108 is now working beautifully without issue. I was very relieved that my 3 year old *inactive* lifetime key worked with this clean install. I thought at the very least I was going to have some problems activating. Nope! I have had serious reservations about re-installing this product after having it fail on two prior 64-bit operating systems... but the installation was as smooth as silk on Windows 7 64-bit. All core 64-bit drivers and services actually work, are not being blocked from loading, nor are their any event viewer warnings or errors of any kind. Gonna cross my fingers and hope that it continues to work and that I can now get my money's worth out of a product I've barely even touched until today! Quite the positive outcome.
