Watching over a community of 35 Million users = Mod job from the very inner flaming pits of hell.
quote:When Toulouse joined Xbox LIVE in 2007, the entertainment service had not yet reached one million users online at the same time.
Enforcement was literally done by one guy with a spreadsheet who would go through the complaints once a week, Toulouse says.
Though it took years to hit the one million user mark, it took one year to hit two million concurrent users.
We knew Xbox LIVE was going to explode, Toulouse says. We knew we were on the cusp of something huge, especially when we saw how many people came into the service with the launch of Halo 3.
The folks at Xbox LIVE, including Toulouse, wanted to stay ahead of the game. He slowly started assembling a team, and they started designing a tool to help the team effectively police the growing community of users. The result was a software program called Vulcan to help enforcers handle and escalate complaints.
It was designed on cocktail napkins, then coded and designed to allow people who do complaint investigations to do so in an efficient and accurate way, Erickson says. Enforcers are now using a brand-new version of this tool, called Vulcan 2, which makes sorting through complaints even faster. In fact, because all enforcers are experienced gamers, they also often use an Xbox controller to navigate their work.
Say one gamer is offering to sell cheating services, or another user in a multiplayer online game is spouting racial epithets into his or her microphone, or yet another registered an offensive gamertag. Enforcement agents will find out about it either via a complaint sent by another Xbox user or by experiencing it firsthand.
The enforcement agents also play games, Erickson says. Part of what we pay them for is to be out there in the community, listening for threats, looking for vulnerabilities, and reporting back to us.
There are a handful of enforcements the team hands out ranging from a 24-hour ban to the most serious voting an Xbox LIVE user off the island for good.
Apart from being gamers, agents are steeped and stewed in Internet culture, as well as being experts in slang, acronyms, and more. Erickson says some of them can actually write in l33t, (pronounced leet) a hacker pidgin language that incorporates abbreviations and numbers in an attempt to bypass profanity filters.
We always appreciate having a diversity of knowledge, Erickson says of the team. Everybody kind of brings their own little history to the table, and can interpret content in the way the rest of us cant.
Toulouse says such diversity is key, though every member of the team shares a common goal.
They are absolutely passionate about safety on Xbox LIVE, he says. I personally believe that when you buy your Xbox LIVE subscription, you are getting us free in the box. Microsoft has invested in us, and we are invested in trying to make sure the experience is good.
You could never convince me they do a good job. The amount of garbage and filthy mouths on live is at an all time high. And it has been like that for the last 2 years or so. These kids have a worse mouth then adults. If I ever heard my kid spout any thing close to what is said on live. I would bust that 360 and all the games. Maybe even to make things worse. Just give it away locally.

You must be older like me as apparently that is how kids talk today as apparently 'Shock' is more important then 'Value' anymore.
What words can do, have a listen and see if these words move you and not one 'filthy' word.
Being able to type/read 'leet' is nothing to be proud of and sure is hell nothing to admit or write on a resume. Judging by the pick Im sure these internet experts are well versed with the likes of goatse and meat spin. (my eyes melted when I first saw those tags.)
Xbox live mods suck. i had w33d in my profile and received a 72 hour ban. Yet the game i was playing that took me on xboxlive had me picking up hookers and killing civilians.

It makes no sense to have mods on xbox live. Everyone has different levels of what they feel is acceptable speech so it is not fair to judge someone over another. Who says which words are bad??? I lol'd at their l33t speech, seriously if you cant figure out what somone typed then why would you censor it? I bet if you make horrible comments in latin no one would care or ban you. They have a double standard.
You can use the parental controls if you do not want to experience the vocabulary of the world. Xbox live mods are just a waste of money for microsoft. -- ...brought to you by Carl's Jr.

Why do you get to set the standard of what is filthy or garbage?? I have never heard anything bad on Xbox live. Hell, if you dont want your kid to experience a wide vocabulary then do not let them use anything that involves the internet. -- ...brought to you by Carl's Jr.

Microsoft does, on Microsoft's turf. XBox LIVE being Microsoft's property, naturally they set the rules. Can I come over to your house and piss on your rug? -- Think Outside the Fox.

You'd think so, but apparently there are plenty of disturbed individuals who enjoy exercising fake power and inventing their own delusional definitions of what's okay.
Read leet? Heck. I had to Google it! Talk about being old.
W/e r0d3nt.
We rodent?
W/e = Whatever
R0d3nt was an old l33t term back in the 1990s/90s and maybe earlier. -- Ant @ »antfarm.ma.cx and »aqfl.net. Please do not IM/e-mail me for technical support. Use the forum! Disclaimer: The views expressed in this posting are mine, and do not necessarily reflect the views of my employer

I unchallenged myself and came up with Rodent with the translator I used. Then I thought that there might be something about rodent that I didn't know. I wasn't about to look that up nor did I know how.
As Blake knows full well, stepto was formerly at the Microsoft Security Response Center, and was well known to us Security MVPs. He's a good guy, I'm glad he's found a way to put his nontrivial security smarts to good use in the lamer community.
Moderators are a group that forum visitors just love to hate. Perhaps its the nature of the job, or perhaps its that most moderators would be better frieing eggs than moderating a forum. Actually its the forum members that have the real power....an never seem to realize that. Todays websites are money makers for the websites owners......an usually its the forum members that supply that which is being "sold"......remove that which is being "sold" an the website becomes worthless......the moderators can not supply what the public requires......so the public goes elsewhere. If I am being bothered at a security forum by moderators I simply quit helping the public visitors......I refuse to share my knowledge....computer security is something of an art.....not everyone really knows computer security...even though some try very hard......they really don't know......so when a visitor does not get help he goes elsewhere.......an the website loses money. So, when my posts get re-moved....or censored.....bingo, I immediate quit helping the public. An if the public told microsoft they wont buy xbox unless microsoft corrects its moderators.....watch how quick microsoft kicks out moderators. Its like a dog that farts.....you can not stop a dog from farting.......an you can not stop moderators from doing ignorant things......moderators are just people.....they have all the issues people usually have.....its best to remember that when in forums.......an if you get centered out by a moderator just move elsewhere......don't waste your time.....there are thousands of forums needing people just like you.
Moderated the post for you. You can quit helping the public now. --WCB!

I have trouble frying eggs. I grease the pan, heat it up, and put in the eggs. But when they get hot the shells break and then there's this mess all over the pan. -- I see what you did.
Actually months ago I stop helping the public.( mainly due to poor health) Other than to a guy helping a group of students I have rarely given out any computer advice. If a man can not be honest in how he expresses himself what kind of man is he....he is not a man at all. An if I give a complment its sincere.....an you will know it to be sincere an not some suck-up meaningless words. An in your case WCB I have complimented you.....an you can bet if you did warrant a compliment I would have told you that as well In my previous post I did not say one bad word about any moderator at this forum. However, should I ever feel a need to do so rest assured that I shall. So often moderators forget how to enjoy themself...its ok to have fun WCB...life gets difficult all by itself without any help from us.
So am I. I watched it as a teenager. :/ I recently watched videos from »cinemassacre.com/?s=tmnt ··· arch.y=0 ... Pretty funny and interesting. -- Ant @ »antfarm.ma.cx and »aqfl.net.
