Fairpoint fixed my connectivity issues :)

So for a long time ive been having major issues with my DSL and today we had someone from fairpoint come out and they replaced the NID box and did some things on the lines locally, needless to say its a huge improvement and its nice to have it working correctly, here are the fixed numbers

Transceiver Information Down Stream Path Up Stream Path
DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 3360 832
Margin (dB) 20.5 15.0
Line Attenuation (dB) 40.0 20.0
Transmit Power (dBm) 8.3 12.2

before the fix my Margin was always less then 10 and usually around 6, it had major issues holding a connection

Nice to hear some good news for a change. I've noticed a bunch of FairPoint trucks here in Milford stringing cable, don't know if it is for telephone or broadband. Our DSL has been reliable but more speed would be a plus.

Based on your attenuation and improved margin might even be able to squeak by getting higher speed tier.

yeah i asked the guy while he was there but they dont offer any faster speeds in my town.

how are the speeds controlled anyways, is it set at the office or is it something thats programmed into the modem?

Re: Fairpoint fixed my connectivity issues :)

Wow! Fairpoint was actually fair to you. Congratulations since you are the first. The speeds are flashed into the modem via the office. Fairpoint is BSing you as they could most definitely provide faster than the 3Mbps package. They just don't have the funds or infrastructure to do so. They can barely provide the 3Mbps package to people so imagine if everyone upgraded (why would you?) to their 7Mbps or 15Mbps service; you'd never see it. Verizon needs to come back if you want progress and since they're not, you're stuck.
