Thanks for the update and info. What is it with Flash. Do they release a new version each week. It subjectively seems that way. Is it genuinley important to update each and every one of their stream of "updates?" No sarcasm intended--a serious question.

They're not called Swiss Cheese for nothing.

But on a serious note, if you're worried about any exploits, then it's not a bad practice to keep all of your stuff up to date.

Hey guys. I'm a Mac user, so I don't see those offerings for Google Toolbar or McAfee (shudder). But I've seen that they try and force you to use the Adobe Download plugin to download flash on Windows. I've googled and found a page with direct links that'll always download the latest release, but is there a more official way to get them? Maybe some Knowledge Base page on Adobe's website?

Direct download links via the Adobe FTP are the preferred method, grunze510 that said, we cannot point at direct download links here.

As for Mac, I would not know, others may.

Did Adobe stop using the download manager to install Flash? I went over to the Adobe site to upgrade Flash and it wanted me to run a file. Normally I get the download manager. What gives?

I noticed that too. I wonder if Adobe dropped its download manager. We'll see what happens in the future releases.

For a while I've always done the other downloads section, then it gave me the non-crapware downloader.

Yeah, for a while, the regular downloads page gave standard installers that didn't need the DLM. Then I checked again on Windows about a week ago and they put the DLM installers back, but luckily not on Mac. I guess they removed it again because of too many complaints again.

Are they using new installers? The files that were available from the Adobe link were:

install_flashplayer10_ax_aih.exe for IE

install_flashplayer10_mssa_aih.exe for non IE (with McAfee)

install_flashplayer10_mssd_aih.exe for non IE (w/o McAfee)

install_flashplayer10_chra_aih.exe for non IE (with Chrome)

install_flashplayer10_chrd_aih.exe for non IE (w/o Chrome)

I found the page to download the Flash Player directly. So if you don't want to use the Adobe Download Manager, head over here. »kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn ··· wnIssues

As you might expect, the filenames are install_flash_player_ax.exe for the IE (ActiveX) version, and install_flash_player.exe for the non-IE (plugin) version.

The only thing I see on that page about downloading it when I click on it sends me to Download Center where Adobe wants to install McAfee.

There is another thread here where there is a proper link to the non-installer crap and I installed FP on IE 6 that way a few minutes ago. I can't remember which thread I saw that in though and can't find it again and now I need to install for both IE and Iron, Fx and Opera on a virtual machine.

How come I got warnings about the file being unsigned? I got the warnings for both IE and for Fx,Opera, Iron downloads.

Here's the direct download link: »fpdownload.adobe.com/get ··· h_player

Just add to the end of the above link either _ax.exe to get the IE download

or add .exe to get the one for the other browsers. No crap. No wanting to install McAfee.

Since when has it been no longer been necessary to have the browser you are installing on closed? I thought IE8 was closed but it was open with three tabs yet Flash installed and I checked to make sure it was working.

Had no such issues downloading flash from Adobe and that was 4 versions of flash (32 & 64 bit).

Time spent about 3 minutes but I was pacing myself.
