Frontier is included in the list. Glad I don't use Frontier DNS and have them locked out of my router. Yeah I know, more to it than just DNS, but it's a start.

Kind of makes me wonder about if and how stuff like the following may be connected.

No, possibly but never conclusively determined, and no. The first was just incompetent admins who can't type right. The last has always been there as remote management, even with Verizon. Only the middle might be. Even then the only reports are for search engine redirects, not just normal links.

Which is easy enough to fix with most browsers by setting the search engine to use an https URL (e.g »encrypted.google.com/ instead of »google.com for the search engine setting).

That was mentioned that in this chain of posts. SSL isn't guaranteed to be immune, although under reasonable circumstances and with companies not wanting to commit corporate suicide, you are likely safe.
