Updating FireFox Extensions Manually

Try this. I'll add it to the forum's left side links.

I updated my extensions to maxVersion 9.0.*

This will work on Theme install.rdf too! (unless they do some drastic changing to FireFox)

Download the extension. (Right click on the Add To Firefox install button and select "save link as")
Rename the .xpi file to .zip (it's only a zip file anyway).
Extract the file "install.rdf".
Edit this file in a text editor such as Notepad.
Look for the line that says <em:maxVersion>4.0</em:maxVersion>
Change the version number to 5.0.* (so it looks like this <em:maxVersion>5.0.*</em:maxVersion>)
Save the file and then rezip it back into the original renamed .zip file.
Rename the extension from .zip back to .xpi.
Start Firefox and drag and drop the file onto the add on page
Then restart FireFox after it installs

Then a thought occurred to me... some extensions didn't need updating. So I opened (unhide files first) C:\Users\User Name Here\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ then went to the Profile folder I use and then opened the extensions folder and updated all the install.rdf I could find in the .xpi files (check any folder too) to 9.0.* that needed it. So future upgrades won't effect the extensions unless they do some drastic changing to FireFox.

I done this before too and it works well but it is easier just to install the add-on add-on-compatibility-reporter »addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox···eporter/ unless you hate seeing the compatibility warning in add-ons but that is easily removable.

There is a few add-ons it does not work on though unfortunately.

It it always surprising that the first people who reply to a lot of topics are always from that place? Not to me it isn't. I have my eye on them. Like I said before they don't fool me.
