Or if you use Android, install the Google Voice app, get a GV number, and use that to send all your text messages. That's what I do, I don't need Verizon's grossly overpriced text plan. If it were free, I'd take it but I sure as heck am not going to pay for it.

Or also, install something like textPlus on Android/iOS/etc, get a number separate from your normal number, and text for free on that number.

Exactly. Should serve light users just fine. I'm a user who definitely needs unlimited, so GV wouldn't work for me- but AT&T still has those plans...
