 | Eastlink having a bad day? My internet connection is cutting in and out today. My Ps3 won't stay logged in for more then 5 mins, and my pc is cutting in and out (but not as much as my ps3 for some reason)
I've unplugged and reset my modem (the full 10 mins) and rebooted everything multiple times but I'm not worried. Everytime this happens, I go into a frenzy trying to fight it - but no more. It seems to 'just stop' after 24h or so.
Anyone else have this happen, or know what causes these little interruptions in my 68$ a month service? |

 | Check your modem logs first at »192.168.100.1 |
|
 | when clicking on the link i get the problem connecting page:
"The connection has timed out
The server at 192.168.100.1 is taking too long to respond"
Does this indicate my problem? |
|
 | Hmm what modem do you have? No just means you have a router or something above and beyond a cable modem.
Unless it's one of those Arris modems, they are unreachable when they are offline. |
|
 | I'm using the latest Eastlink Motorola Modem D1F00, it has the router built in. I just exchanged my old modem because of these 24h cut-outs, but it doesn't change anything. Also just got a fresh new pc, so all factors are new and it's still happening. And to top it all off, I think I caught stupid. And there's no medication for that, yet. |
|
 | Try either »192.168.0.1 or »192.168.1.1 |
|
 | Sorry, it's the SBG6580 motorola surfboard, with wifi and router built in. I read the wrong code. But neither of those addresses work either. I'm trying to find the address myself but no luck, and there's no mention of this model on Motorola's site anymore. |
|
 | reply to xxap Should be reportable at one of those addresses. Can't really help you past this without any modem logs and Eastlink doesn't really help people here so you'd have to send a direct message on their twitter account or call them. |
|
 | Thanks for trying acrufox! I've been attempting to log into this modem since I've gotten it but no luck yet. I'll call Eastlink in the morning as you suggested and see if they can at least find me the address. |

| Open a command prompt window. At the command prompt type "ipconfig" (without the quotes, press enter) Scroll up and look for the default gateway. That should be the ip address of the modem/router.
I had the eastlink wifi/modem combo, it was so unstable that I ended up dropping it back to eastlink, picking up a modem and getting my own router.
My personal experience is that it gets overloaded way too easily. |
|
 | Hmm, I checked this before and the address reported in ipconfig doesn't work either. I did a whois check and it says I'm in the USA, but I'm in Halifax NS, Canada.
Point noted as to the reliability of this modem though, I see others have similar problems with them |

| Yeah, I was never able to get the bugs worked out of mine.
You probably have one of Eastlinks 208.X.X.X IP blocks, which doesn't identify correctly. If I remember right, dslreports identifies as Speakeasy instead of Eastlink.
I hope they can help you over the phone, they are pretty useless. |
|
 | Ya, everytime I've talked to them they say my connection is working fine, and everything is normal. Damn Jedi scum, these parlor tricks have no effect on me anymore! |

| Just wait till FiberOP rolls through, lol. We had a neighboring node that was failing and causing everyone in our neighborhood to lose all our services. Took them 3 weeks to tell me it was a known problem.
I don't have any confidence when their technicians call and tell me they know there is a problem somewhere but can't track it down.
1 1/2 years ago our node was dying and they just kept telling me everything is just peachy. They replaced all the wiring to the house and inside the house seven times just for the fun of it. |
|
 | Wow, replacing the wiring 7 times just to avoid saying they have a problem. I can even see Jim Carey returning to play this role.
I would actually have MORE confidence if they called me to say they knew there was a problem, I can be very forgiving - as of now I have to assume it's me.
But the problem will hopefully be gone tomorrow, with no changes made by me before or after.
You forum experts are awesome btw, bringing rogue customer service finally to us wretched masses. Thanks for doing a job someone else is gonna get paid for on friday. Next stop Auzentech (my new $240 hdmi soundcard won't install and nobody in their forums has gotten a response in over a year - on their top end card) Hmmm, just thought of a great business idea - customer service for OTHER peoples products. Too bad it's such a viable idea. |

| There is always an x-fi with super cheap capacitors that tend to blow over time. >.>
I remember when this forum was first put up. Thought hey great I'll get some help from people further up the chain at Eastlink. Never got a reply.
Guess this is the Eastlink Experience they keep talking about. |
|
 | Wow, FibreOp sounds amazing. The entire Maritimes are wired and service appears to be online already. Maybe I'll call them tomorrow instead of Eastlink... Do I understand correctly we're the test-market for the entire planet here? Finally being isolated from the outside world has paid off.
$99/mo for a 3 month trial incl. phone, hd cable, all channels, and INTERNET. Except it's not made of net. Even $150 reg. price for the medium tier service (30mb up/down - all channels but HBO and movie net) is a great price
The Eastlink Experience is about to be checked. |

| You will probably find out that they aren't available in your area unless you're in one of the new deployment areas.
Hopefully this url will be of some use to you to see if it's in your area yet. (They only announced this year)
I wouldn't jump on the FibreOP TV bandwagon yet. It's something brand new for them and there are a lot of kinks still to be worked out. But for internet it blows Eastlink out of the water.
I'm planning to get the 70/30 package for about what one pays for Eastlinks wonderful 40/2. Tired of sitting there for hours on Eastlink waiting for 100 photos to upload.
Aliant already had a lot of the infrastructure up here years ago, it's now that they have most of it up on the pole that they are announcing. I don't think we're a test bed of any sort. They are deploying in Montreal and a few other places, but that is Bell and not BellAliant (which is better, not as restrictive)
I was on Fios in the states and coming back here to Eastlink Cable has been such a step back for me. For gaming, nothing bears Fiber! |
|
 | Drat! You're right, no deployment in Halifax as of yet. But their tv/internet/phone package looks good too, if it 'works as advertised'. I'll probably wait though, if FibreOp is to be here before the New Year. |
|
 | 3 months too huh, lol |
